(This isn’t satire – it’s G4S!)
Is it only me that’s noticed G4S were the company in charge of airport security which let some of the 9/11 hijackers slip through?
Through a contract with United Airlines, a company called Argenbright Security operated passenger security checkpoints at Dulles International Airport, where five hijackers passed through before boarding American Airlines Flight 77 on September 11, 2001.
But Argenbright were a subsidiary of Securicor, who are now – yes, you’ve guessed it – G4S.
The company was also fined for hiring people to work on airport security with criminal convictions for assault and drug possession.
In the US, FAA investigators found that Argenbright was regularly employing people who didn’t speak English and that it was paying workers no better than wages in a fast-food restaurant.
Now, where have I heard that before?
Don’t you think – in light of the complete shambles G4S has brought to the security operation for the Olympics before the bloody thing has even got started – this is pretty important information we should all know about?
And what about the government? Did they have this information before they handed over security for the Olympic Games to G4S?
And if the government didn’t know about it – why not?
.
And here’s yet another example of the competence and professionalism of G4S:
Not satire – prisoner escaped curfew after G4S mistakenly tagged his false leg!
and what about this …erm …. unusual one:
G4S Embassy Guards Sacked By US Government For Drinking Vodka Out Of Each Others’ Bottoms……
.
Please help spread this information by sharing. Thanks:

So glad I don’t live anywhere near London and the olympics , if I did id seriously think of moving elsewhere till the whole shambles was finished . The whole charade is gonna cost the country far more than it reaps in revenue from tourists as it is and no doubt the poorest of society will end up paying for this mass screw up by even more austerity measures .

Not quite… G4S has its origins in several companies which have merged at various points since the first of them formed in 1901, but to cut a long story short, Securicor and Group 4 Falck were two separate companies which merged to form Group 4 Securicor (subsequently G4S) in 2004, three years after 911:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G4S
Which still doesn’t detract from how pisspoor G4S are – after all, Securicor have long been a byeword for being crap in the UK so why any reputable company would have wanted to merge with them is beyond me…

So shocking, words fail me.This story needs more coverage – I keep re tweeting it. It should be all over the news. People need to wake up and be shocked into action. It’s not just G4S (already practically running Lincolnshire police…). Serco have just been awarded a contract to run the probation service. And Virgin ‘Care’ are poised to be awarded the contract to run Children’s Services in Devon. That would be the service that protects children from abuse. Privatisation is never a good idea for key services that protect citizens. That includes national security, police, NHS, child services, probation services…need I go on? Sorry to rant – my blood is boiling.
Keep up the good work Tom Pride!

Yes. I’m amazed we’ve come to this. Anyone would think the government had a strong mandate – not that they failed to win an overall majority at the last election.

Michael Meacher adds:
But this is only the latest in a series of ignominious failures. G4S has already suffered a previous humiliation last year when it lost its contract to deport rejected asylum seekers following a death in a violent struggle on the plane and 773 complaints of abuse.

Thing is that we’re told that competition ‘ups’ a company’s game and choice is the mantra of privatisation… but I understand that G4S is practically the only company in the world that is (was considered) capable of organising security for the Olympics. Isn’t that a monopoly and aren’t we supposed to have a commission preventing monopolies? No matter. I agree with Meacher G4S should be nationalised/brought into democratic ownership. Security, prisons, probation etc should not be for profits.

Agreed Sue. But I don’t think we should nationalise G4S. Take away their government contracts and they will go bankrupt. I’d ban them from operating in the UK if they continued to operate internationally.
I agree these things should not be run for profit. I think security, policing, defence etc should be run by state institutions solely – namely the police and the military.

Another fascinating piece from Pride’s Purge (which is an absolutely fantastic blog by the way) regarding G4S’s previous less than glorious track record.
One would hope that the farcical succession of stories in the last few days regarding just how useless G4S are will make the government pause for a moment and wonder if their mania for out-sourcing and privatizing everything that the state does is such a good idea. I’m sure some people will be making a fortune from these deals of course, but there is also no doubt that the ‘savings’ that are supposedly the hallmark of ‘private sector efficiency’ will be found by compromising the quality of services. The motivations driving what we are often told is ‘sensible politics’ are a) cost-cutting, whatever the consequences and b) ideology and a desire to undermine workers conditions and their capacity to resist.
With this brainless, mule-like regime we have however, I wouldn’t hold my breath that there will be a re-think. No doubt they will carry on regardless, largely because the corporations that stand to benefit from all of these ‘reforms’ have by and large captured the Conservative Party (and much of the rest of our political class for that matter)………

Mr. Nick Buckles, CEO, has been a Director of Securicor PLC – and now G4S – since May 2000:

That’s before 9/11.
Changing the name doesn’t cut it I’m afraid.
And yes agreed – they’re pisspoor.
So pisspoor our government has paid them 300 million of our money to do a job they clearly were incapable of doing. A quite important job actually.
On that theme, I wonder how much of this fiasco is known internationally, especially by the nations competing at the Olympics?
Maybe someone should tell them?

The fact that this Tory/LD does not agree is what surprises me. I had always understood that ‘shrinking the state’ meant privatising everything but the police and the military! This is truly anarcho-capitalism.

Hey there this is kind of of off topic but I was wanting
to know if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.
I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding knowledge so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!
