(satire – or is it?)
As loons – especially swivel-eyed ones – are in the news at the moment, I thought I’d give you some interesting facts – completely true I promise you – about the habitat and breeding habits of the bird known as the Common Loon.
- Loons are extremely territorial and will aggressively defend their territory sometimes to the death.
- Common Loons often make wailing or moaning noises but can yodel when defending their territory.
- Most Loons have grey heads and white bellies.
- Loons are slow to take off but once they get going their considerable stamina means they can fly for considerable distances.
- Loons prefer to build their nests on small islands surrounded by water where they are completely cut off from other inhabitants.
- The word ‘Loon’ comes from the Old Norse word lōmr, which means ‘to moan’.

Looks like Cameron’s mate was more spot-on than he realised when he described Tory activists as loons.

Are these loons the same loons who wore those ridiculous baggy Loon Pants in the 1970s?
Or were the Loon Pant wearers from the Looney Left?
Both types of loon are swivel eyed, thats for sure.

Why are you attacking the left when it is your own right wing Tory party that are calling you loons? The far left’s policies are anything but loony. The tories and ukip are beginning to emulate warring comic characters from the loony tunes.

Are you referring to the common loon, as opposed to the rarer, monster raving loon or the lesser spotted. Ukiptory loon there Tom?

and of course, not forgetting the invertebrate species, often found hiding in laundry baskets and other dark crevices. Usually holds no particular position of power, but has been known that some sub-species has a position of power, but fighting is not its usual ploy, it lies in wait, angling for an opportunity, sometimes on Question Time, other times, the Parlaiment channel and mentions here and there on obscure news sites. It can get angry in an instant, but it lacks totally in ability to defend itself. When it cloisters together with others of the same species, alcohol is imbibed to the strange call of ‘Oh haw haw haw!’, ‘I say, old bean’, ‘jolly good show old pal!’ and ‘I say, do you need another refill?’
Potentially dangerous but can be easily outwitted and outsmarted with alarming ease. Noted also for a yellow streak of piss it generates too.

It’s not MY right wing Tory party Guy Fawkes. I’ve never voted Conservative in my life, and if you had read my earlier comment correctly you would see that I described all loons as ‘swivel eyed’. I only comment in order to stimulate intelligent debate, a skill that the looney left appear to lack.
I’d like to know what the far left’s policies are though, because apart from attacking everyone else, howling them down and calling then nazis they don’t seem to have any policies as such.

In the event of a hung parliament at the next election where ukip had the deciding vote, your Tory leader Nigel states he would align with the tories, therefore you would be subjected to tory policies primarily and anything unpopular or controversial the tories wanted to pass would be attributed to ukip as it does to the lib dems now.
As for the far left, I think their policies are well documented and would not want to go into detail here, especially as this is largely a site for satire rather than serious debate.

There’s every chance of a hung parliament, but which set of tories do you think what you see as ‘my Tory leader’ will align with, the red tories or the blue tories?
Over the past few years there’s been little to choose between them which is why no party can expect a clear majority.
I can find no evidence of policy from the far left anywhere other than that of calling everyone who doesn’t agree with them nazis or fascists, but I agree that this site, in common with the far left, doesn’t do serious debate.
Both Labour and Tories have been taking the piss out of us all for years so I understand the concept of satire.
Support him or not, and support from the likes of me is not unqualified, the head fruitcake has forced some uncomfortable realities that a significant number of ordinary voters want to see addressed onto the political agenda.

You are right about new labour being more tory than labour and yes you picked up votes from both parties in the local elections who are dissatisfied with their mainstream parties agenda’s at present, but the Tories always run back to their mothership in national elections.
Nobody from the left would now associate themselves with new labour after being abandoned by Blair, causing an exodus from the left and an influx from the right.
Traditional ex labour members may agree with some of your policies but not all of them which could deter them from voting for ukip, preferring to abstain from voting altogether or vote for an independent, knowing that if you vote ukip you get tory and if you vote labour you get tory too.
Cameron was referring to members of his own party as loons, not the far left, nor ukip in this instance, which he called a party of fruitcakes, loons etc.on other occasions, so leave the left out of it.

The point of my original comment was to highlight the amount of politically inspired name calling that is replacing debate and honesty in recent times.
You may recall that those originally referred to pejoratively as lunatics in the 1980s were ‘the looney left’ and nothing said or done by those who support hard left ideals has convinced me, and many old Labour middle of the road thinkers like me, that they are not lunatics, hence their inclusion.
I am, however, more than happy to concede that the Tories have more than their fair share of lunatics, some of whom might have migrated to UKIP.
I wouldn’t expect all ex old Labour supporters to agree with every UKIP policy, I certainly don’t, but the plain fact is that amongst my peers UKIP have definitely struck a chord.
Many who never subscribe to political blogs, satirical or otherwise, are starting to see UKIP in a favourable light and the idea that ‘things will never change no matter who we vote for so why bother voting’ is being replaced by ‘UKIP are saying things that I agree with, so I might vote for them instead of the other three’.
Why should traditional old Labour supporters who share the same ideas as I do abstain, when the golden gift of a protest vote that will be much more effective than a wasted Liberal vote for getting some shared concerns onto the agenda is presented to them?
We both know that even with the latest figures which show the rising popularity of UKIP, there is very little chance of a significant number of UKIP MP’s taking their seats at Westminster after the next election.
It doesn’t matter though does it?
If the mere threat of ‘our’ Fruitcake Eating Loons stopping some of the older established but now discredited Loons from feathering their nests at our expense can cause the repositioning and back-pedalling that has recently taken place, (desperately scrabbling to get back on topic here) or if they can crap on some of the other Loons from a great height, then these other assorted Loons who have disregarded our concerns or dismissed them as ‘populist’ for so long will be forced to whistle to our tune for a change. 🙂

This is encouraging news Guy Fawkes, but of course one swallow (or swivel eyed loon) doesn’t make an electoral spring.
If the survey results turn out to be accurate and UKIP’s popularity continues to increase at least the Tories will have to start to behave like Tories by adopting Tory policies, and Labour will have to stop faffing about trying to be all things to all men and come up with some hard policy decisions. They may even start to become an effective opposition!
Poltical parties will be forced to re-define themselves and to recognise listen to and act on the concerns of ordinary people and voters will be offered a clear choice which has been lacking in recent times.
For those like me it’s win-win.
The Tories probably wont be re-elected because UKIP will still reduce their vote, the LibDems will go the way of the Dodo and Labour will be forced to embrace those who vote Labour instead of despising them so we will have a chance of getting some social justice but without the secret agenda of unlimited uncontrolled mass immigration for which there has never been any mandate.
All of this goes to prove that centerist politics is for the birds 🙂
