Supermarket chain Asda has withdrawn a George Osborne Halloween outfit after they were criticised for stigmatising axe murderers.
Asda dropped its “George Osborne fancy dress costume”, and apologised for any offence caused to axe murderers for implying there was any similarity to the chancellor.
The £20 Asda outfit included ragged clothing, fake blood, a mask and a fake meat cleaver and offered to complete the look with an “authentic looking” gormless expression.
In a statement on Wednesday evening, Asda, which is owned by US retail giant Walmart, said the sale had been a “completely unacceptable error”.
Before I’m criticised (yet again) for supposedly making light of a serious issue – I can assure you (yet again) that everything I bother to satirise I take very very seriously indeed:
