(not satire – it’s British ‘intelligence’)
I’ve just been reading the excellent new biography of Dr David Kelly by Robert Lewis – Dark Actors: The Life and Death of Dr David Kelly
Be warned though – the book won’t satisfy conspiracy theorists because Lewis concludes that Kelly probably did commit suicide.
And it won’t satisfy anyone with even the slightest trace of anti-Blair sentiment either – which let’s face it includes just about everyone on the planet barring Dan Hodges.
So I can’t see the book being popular, which is a pity because I think Lewis hits the nail on the head when it comes to why Kelly died.
By examining Kelly’s life and career from the beginning, Lewis comes to the conclusion that far from being a disloyal whistle-blower – Kelly was in fact as loyal as they come.
He also suggests Kelly regularly briefed journalists on behalf of secret security services like MI5 and MI6 – something which was and had been for a long time part of his undeclared job description for British intelligence.
The conclusion? That Kelly was most likely simply following orders by MI6 to start briefing journalists against the Blair government and its disastrous decision to invade Iraq on the basis of non-existent WMD’s.
As Lewis himself puts it – this was in order for MI6 to make sure it was the Blair government which got the blame for confecting claims about Iraqi WMD – not British intelligence.
However, once the shit hit the fan, MI6 dropped Kelly like a hot brick – even informing him just before he died that they were withdrawing his security clearance.
This could well have put Kelly in a position where he would have been facing the loss of his job, his reputation and even jail time – something he may have decided was too much to put his family through.
This all seems to me the most likely explanation for the events which led to the tragic death of Dr David Kelly – notwithstanding the fact that very few people will like a conclusion which doesn’t a) blame Blair entirely for what happened and b) involve extra-judicial murder by James Bond type people.

conspiracy nutballs, yup like those who spoke out about child abuse by political types, like gangs led by jimmy, like the childrens hones in wales, scotland ireland and england.I mean how many reports were made to the police tom at the time, but were ignored when they got sent further up the chain, you know, like the saturday club, in the diana tapes jimmy was always with the royals, spent every xmas with denis n maggie, maggie.
of course if you browse through the archives, there are 100s of links, with dates, but you can of course shake your head and pretend your own world is untouched by this vile stench, because no one would do that to your children, all it takes is for a good man to do nothing eh?

working on the thesis blair was a patsy and did not agree to go to war with bush or bush agreed to go to the uk plc corporations war- the head of one of the security services went to work for an oil company i guess, we know that gas and oilpipelines were involved with iraq libya and now syria and the others, it would seem the west do not want oil and gas flowing from the wrong part of the world still.
using as the late robin cook said the american arab league cia data base on a rola-dex they funded extreme muslims to create so called jihad, for money and funding, using the same assets they had against the russians when they went into afganistan.
hence the fact al-cia-da was rebadged and re-spelt, the myth v reality.
just who are you saying is pulling the strings? bae and their ilk? lets face it you cannot tell corporations and state apart now, dave travels with his arms dealing uk-usa french dealers in death and destruction everytime he goes to a country, before or after its invaded, as did tony and others before him.
no one wants these wars, except those who profit by them,
in the real world tom, no finger-prints on the blunt pocket knife, no finger prints on dr kellys water bottle, the wrong vein cut, lack of the correct amount of blood in the ground- the unreported helicopter the police on duty did not report from the met police, which was traced back to them, with payment records, the fact he had just made arrangements to fly back to his investigations, the fake hunt for him when his mobile was on, so he could have been found in about 3 mins by triangulation of it, let alone the fact he would have known killing himself would leave the family without life insurance payout.
of course, no one mentions his co-worker, friend dr holmes, who suddenly does the same thing – only one article on that made it into the press.

“This could well have put Kelly in a position where he would have been facing the loss of his job, his reputation and even jail time – something he may have decided was too much to put his family through.”
So Dr Kelly thought “suiciding” himself, without a note of explanation, (yet dies of “heart failure”) would be less traumatic for his family…than losing his Job and having the respect of the nation for standing against Govt. warmongering spin …really? A lame and disingenuous conclusion that would only appease Govt./MI6 and Guardian apologists, me thinks.
Someone who’s a world renowned expert on, and has access to, lethal biochem materials, decides he’ll make use of “26” painkillers which would have resulted in a slow and incredibly painful death, possibly, by kidney failure, if the strength was sufficient, not heart failure. The autopsy, if carried out professionally, would have evidenced kidney failure, which it didn’t, as he died before this process had sufficient time to run it’s course (up to days for many suicide cases)… and so he cuts a minor artery crossways, as opposed to along the length, that no one has ever died from and left a paltry amount of blood spilled before it coagulated, a spill later reported by paramedics to be added to, post mortem, at the scene of death.
This official story describes a man who knows exactly what can kill a person, instantly, has full access to the labs in which such lethal compounds are created and stored, leaves the family home “To go for a walk” to a known masonic ritual meeting place, apparently is planning to kill himself by the “evidence” of taking along a pack of painkillers and a tiny pocket fruit knife, is fully aware that a suicide without explanatory note will leave the world asking questions, and stymying closure for his family, has recently stated to a friend his sense that there are “Dark Actors” out there …..and so saves his family from distress (from the outside chance of temporary incarceration) by topping himself?.
This Tom, is Satire, an insult to inquisitive intelligence, and for every reason on earth, grounds for a fresh & full public enquiry. You’ve wasted the price you paid for Lewis’ apologetic gloss of the Dr Kelly story and again your conclusion of the motive for his alleged suicide is uncharacteristically lame. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that this book is the only report you have ever read re. Dr Kelly along with recent MSM stories that prepares for the 10 year anniversary of this case. It’s not just about “did he or didn’t he kill himself” but the subsequent failure of the medical inquiry and Govt. inquiry to address the anomalies that contradict the official story. The astonishingly poor whitewash of an inquiry over the extremely controversial circumstances around his death is what has created a ten year long furore that remains to this day. This book offers nothing to appease the unresolved issues at stake Tom, I sincerely wish it had.
This is not some lightweight topic to pick up and play with. We now have available ten years of research into this matter, that any rational and reasonably intelligent individual could see requires a complete independent inquiry. The recent Guardian articles and Lewis’ book is clearly damage control as July 17th draws near. Your “piece” doesn’t serve you or the case Tom and this is no slur upon yourself whatsoever. There are far more important matters at stake. History will question this case along with those who were involved, incl the players who sought to cover up the obvious. Do yourself a service and read up before you post on this topic. You’re not a hack and have entertained me over these past few years and have never given me cause to post you. I know you’re not a knee jerker Tom so digest what i have to say and rethink your conclusion. Good luck, yes it is a minefield, welcome. Pax

politrixgames – I don’t want to go into the ins and outs of the evidence for and against suicide – but let’s just say that although most of the facts you mentioned are true – the evidence doesn’t refute the possibility of suicide either.
The only thing I will argue with you about is this comment – “A lame and disingenuous conclusion that would only appease Govt./MI6 and Guardian apologists.”
Why on earth would a conclusion that MI6 drove one of its loyal operatives to suicide because they decided he’d be a useful fallguy to protect their reputation be one that ‘appeases’ them?
And since when has the Guardian been apologists for the Blair government about Iraq?

Iraq Inquiry Digest took a different gloss on this, which plays up the possibility that he might have been considered a security risk, and was threatened by a MI5 counterespionage inquiry. He had at least one good reason to worry about that.

Are you phenomenally stupid Tom?
Your questions dont have any baring on this, and suggest your mind is engaged in comforting itself against disturbing realisations. You seem to actually believe that if it was true THE GUARDIAN KNOW THE TRUTH AND WOULD TELL US. I’m not sure I’ve ever read something as absurd as this. Do you know ANYTHING about journalism?
The Guardians views are just OPINIONS and in no way have ANY barings here. As for your opinion that the Intelligence Agency is a single community that cares about its assets… well its clear you know nothing about them either. Seriously, grow up a bit.
[Eh? …. I suggested the Intelligence Agencies quite happily let Kelly be the fall guy. How does that equal to me suggesting they “care about their assets”? And as for the Guardian – where did I suggest the Guardian tells the truth? I have criticised the Guardian quite a few times on this blog exactly for not doing that:
I think you need to read things much more carefully before jumping into what is a very complex discussion.] – TOM
