True, except that the idiot Cameron has chosen a war which can’t possibly be ‘won’. However, it is one where the government can try to claim success with grossly exaggerated numbers of ‘militants’ killed, and grossly underestimated numbers of civilians killed.
Sadly the lot of ordinary people in Iraq and Syria will once again remain unchanged after spending yet more billions of dollars on destroying things. The US even proudly announced destroying several oil refineries today. The Syrian people need those oil refineries in the future.
Here’s a prediction – UK ground troops will be sent in, but only after the election, and this will happen irrespective of whether Labour or Tory wins that election.
And Tom, you forgot to mention the support also of the rabidly jingoistic right-wing Labour party leadership.

I see Cameron waited until after the Scottish Referendum before recalling parliament. Got to think the Coalition decided it might go down like a lead balloon with Scottish people, swinging the vote to Yes.

Absolutely right. Westminster starting ANOTHER unwinnable war would almost certainly have tipped the referendum over to Yes. Of course some Scottish voters already knew that both Tory and Labour leaderships were keen to start bombing, but still the reality would have made a large difference.

A curious point…… Why have we seen NO opinion polls about starting another war in Iraq (or Syria)? A couple of weeks ago we could barely move for opinion polls!

They are ALL (at the moment) saying they won’t attack Syria, so that means nothing… and Miliband forgetting to tell the Sun that he supports Help For Heroes wouldn’t be out of character!
I think that in the jingoism stakes it’s pretty much neck and neck between the three main Westminster parties. Got anything else?

Thanks, I missed that one. It seems that it was pushed out of the headlines by the Scottish referendum. The problem with that poll is that it doesn’t mention bombing Iraq, only Syria, which of course would currently be illegal.
