On the 23rd of October, the UK press reported that Russian and US planes had completely “obliterated” the Omar oil field in Syria which is under the control of Daesh:
“The terrorists’ oil field in eastern Syria was obliterated in a day of bombing conducted by both Russia and the US-led coalition. US operations officer Major Michael Filanowski told reporters in Baghdad the Omar oil field was blitzed, heavily damaging the lucrative funding source for ISIS.”
But today the same press is reporting the same “obliterated” oil field was hit by UK airstrikes:
“Four Tornados took off from RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus just an hour after MPs voted in favour of launching airstrikes in the war-torn country. The jets struck targets in the Omar oil field in Eastern Syria, dealing a “real blow” to the death cult, also known as Daesh.”
The first casualty of war is always the truth…

Wag The Dog…..Conrad ‘Connie’ Brean: You watched the Gulf War, what do you see day after day? The one smart bomb falling down the chimney. The truth? I was in the building when we shot that shot – we shot in a studio, Falls Church, Virginia. One-tenth scale model of a building.
Stanley Motss: Is that true?
Conrad ‘Connie’ Brean: How the fuck do we know? You take my point?

Good to see Tom back after an absence of several months, and in fine, incisive form. And in this article he shows that the spin and propaganda has already begun. This is Cameron’s Orwellian Dystopia, with Dave himself as Big Brother. Just wait: in a few months he’ll start trying to tell us that ‘War is peace’.

It’s maybe not quite so simple – Apparently the RAF destroyed the actual well heads, which had deliberately been left intact by the USAF in October because of the environmental impact.

Propaganda is the least destructive aspect of conflicts. At the same time as we learned the names and the faces of those murdered by terrorists in Paris other unknown were killed because they were used a human shields or forced to work in the fields or man the vehicles transporting the oil finance by our allies in the region for personal profit, It is important in war to maintain the morale of fighting forces and the Church of England is said to have described as a just war. The action has been taken to satisfy some understandable public hunger for revenge, as a solidarity with the French Government which is facing a crucial election where the right is expected to gain ground as is happening in Germany because of the migrant policy and the UK the government clearly us under pressure from UKIP although Labour has shown the way to defeat them in the Oldham by-election and from fear that there will be a vote to leave the Euro referendum which Cameron personally hoped he would not have implement
In fairness to Cameron he has explained that the bombing will not end the strife in Syria until ground troops can operate and rightly he is concerned that any outcome will not lead to Assad or someone like him regaining political and military control. and also this will take at least a generation given the initiative having been seized by Russia with their direct intervention , This is part of the political reality of conflict as it has always been.
If the opportunity arises I recommend going to see one of the 50th anniversary showings of Dr Zhivago or rereads the Pasternak book which reveals the reality of the battle for power and personal ambition and survival.

Creasy, interesting that the US military has apparently now been so concerned about the environment… There have been reports that US allies have been happily partaking of trade profit from ISIS oil routes, here’s a recent video from Russia about ISIS-Turkey oil smuggling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMA4B2ZnQ2o Turkish journalists writing about this have been arrested.
Of course some of our UK mainstream press have framed Russia’s reports as ‘proof’ and that the information from Moscow’s satellite images is only “purporting to show Turkish trucks filling up in Isis-controlled Iraq and Syria” e.g.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/russia-releases-proof-turkey-is-smuggling-isis-oil-over-its-border-a6757651.html While the US has rejected the Russian military’s announcements and conveniently puts it down to ‘middlemen’: “Hours after Antonov’s announcement in Moscow, the U.S. rejected the Russian claim against Erdoğan. “We frankly see no evidence, none, to support such an accusation,” a spokesman for the State Department told journalists. Instead, he said, ISIS sells oil to middlemen who transport it beyond the group’s territory, including into Turkey, through established smuggling routes.” Ref (Dec 4th 2015): http://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/the-isis-oil-trade-from-the-ground-up The propaganda on all sides continues…
And to Colin Smart on the Church of England having described it “as a just war” that is far from reassuring! They obviously haven’t been reading up on where the ISIS militants get their brand new armaments and notably not in line with their ethical investments policies, the Church of England also allows it’s headquarters to be used by arms traders for their wine sipping conferences… even after petitions (in case it had slipped their notice): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvgqA2FJ8H0

Michelle – I doubt that the US military or CIA are actually bothered about the environmental impact of destroying the well heads. What they’re bothered about is the criticism…… and guess who’s going to get that criticism now!
