(not satire – it’s the UK today)
A woman who has been raped, assaulted, harassed and stalked by an ex-partner has been told by the government that she has to pay the bedroom tax on a secure room installed by the police to protect her and her son from the violent stalker.
The woman’s lawyers are challenging the decision in the high court.
But – of course – callous government ministers are fighting her every step of the way:
‘Panic room’ housing benefit change challenge at High Court
I wonder if there are any Conservative and Liberal Democrat supporters who feel even a twinge of guilt that their leaders are supporting rapists and violent criminals in court against their victims?

Unnervingly, I suspect that “Conservative and Liberal Democrat supporters” know full-well that their leaders support rapists — particularly if they contribute to ‘party’ coffers. For the moment, at least, Labour still has the mechanisms to combat dubious/dodgy funding (trades union funding may seem dodgy to Tories but it is transparent) — the further it moves away from being a ‘left-of-centre’ party I don’t know if that will be true.

I read this comment on another site discussing the same topic and I want to add it (if I may):
“I am not a Mum to young children, in fact I’m a 57-year-old grandmother (that is a daytime childminder to two of my grandkids). Notwithstanding the former, I want to relate to you all my terrible experience of domestic violence:
I was a victim of extreme-domestic violence and (to cut a long story short) I got help off the DHSS (now the DWP)/Social Services/council landlord, etc AS I KNOW BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT I WOULDN’T BE HERE TODAY AS MY EX-HUSBAND WOULD’VE EVENTUALLY KILLED ME, apart from the monetary help and housing help (I was re-housed 70 miles from my home, it was my choice to go), etc I received: I had to have 2 years intensive psychiatric treatment after a suicide attempt. It horrifies me that at least 2 women die every week at the hands of the man that’s supposed to love them and they won’t get the support I got back in the 1980s.-
I am over it now, but, even to this day a key turning in the front door (from outside) still makes me shudder & I have PTSD from somethings I suffered.
Suffice to say: I fear it’s only a matter of time that some woman is killed because of benefit denial/social services cuts like the recent death of an ex-soldier through benefit sanctions and all Iain Duncan Smith does is drone on about keeping families together! Tell that to my grown-up kids who are affected to this day by the violence we all suffered”

The allegation in the child abuse scandal is that in the 80s some of the goverment were rapists and violent criminals. To move to only supporting such people is clearly social progress.

This is precisely the kind of pervert justice, which Jewish legend considered to be typical of the evil of Sodom, and the reason why God wiped it out. In extrabiblical Jewish lore, the people of Sodom were greedy exploiters of the poor. They were so wicked, that if one of them threw a stone at a person in the street and drew blood, he could sue the victim under the pretext that, having bled him or her, he had performed a vital medical operation and so required payment. It was this ruthless oppression of the poor and innocent that caused the outcry to rise up to the Almighty, and for Him to wipe it, Gomorra and the other Cities of the Plain from the Earth. Forget homosexuality, it seems to me that the government has been all too keen on this aspect of the City’s and its inhabitants evil, and have now turned it into official government policy.

If the man is a violent rapist, the the Police need to do job and lock the felon up.
All easily solved by the police doing their job and applying the law or we’d all need “safe rooms”. How ridiculous.
Story obviously exaggerated beyond belief.

Domestic violence is done by a man who will kill and then commit suicide, killing all his kids along with the wife.
They always re-offend, so other than locking the offender up for life, they will re-do the crime on another victim(s).
Many councils and social housing associations simply re-designate all but one bedroom upstairs as ‘undesignated’ and so prevent liability to the bedroom tax.
Labour and The Greens offer in their 2015 manifesto to revoke the bedroom tax.
Domestic violence happens in all income levels and at all ages, however old or young (children often the victims and can be from both parents).
Domestic violence is not a new thing, but has occurred throughout history.
Only now has the law realised under UK law that is a criminal activity.
The problem is that the victim is harassed / intimidated to redraw their complaint and the Police cannot proceed without a victim making a complaint. Classic Catch 22.
Other nations have the Police solely collecting the evidence, arresting the offender at the scene and keeping him in police cells overnight, giving the victim(s) time to escape the home, and not needing the victim to make a complaint to continue with the prosecution.
So in fact it is the local council who is imposing the bedroom tax, because so many other councils have been allowed to get rid of the bedroom tax by stealth by simply redesignating all homes liable for the bedroom tax, as single bedroomed.
