(not satire – it’s the Lib Dems!)
In 2010, Liberal Democrat president Tim Farron described paedophile Cyril Smith as an “idol” of his.
Mr Farron’s fulsome praise of Smith can be seen in the comments section of the Liberal Democrat Voice just after Smith died:
In the same comments section, disgraced Liberal Democrat peer Lord Rennard can also be seen referring to Smith as a “personal inspiration” to him:
.
These comments are even more alarming now we know senior Lib Dems such as Rennard and Farron had been aware of allegations about Smith’s repugnant criminal behaviour for years.

In addition to the paedophilia, Cyril Smith was also in Private Eye for his part in blocking compensation payments to the workers at a particular factory in his constituency, who had contracted asbestosis or similar complaint through exposure to hazardous materials at the factory, because he was a shareholder. He was a frequent guest on TV during his career, where he appeared to present a genial, even jovial face. Nevertheless, he was a deeply corrupt and morally disgusting individual
