(not satire – it’s the Tories!)
A Tory council candidate has said on Facebook that she would never support “The Jew” Ed Miliband.
Tory candidate Gulzabeen Afsar referred to Ed Miliband as “Al Yahud“- which means “The Jew” in Arabic:
Here’s the full story from the Jewish News:
EXCLUSIVE: Tory council candidate: I’d never support ‘the Jew’ Miliband
It’s unthinkable I know, but some of the right-wing attacks on Miliband during the election – bacon sandwiches, backstabbing etc – have had nasty anti-semitic undertones:
‘Backstabber’ is an historical antisemitic insult: Tory campaign turns nasty
Could the vitriolic attacks on Ed Miliband be because he’s Jewish?
But perhaps it seems – not so unthinkable after all?
.

This is truly shocking, considering the long campaign to kick the racists out of the mainstream political parties. Even in the Monday Club in the 1970s banned anti-Semites from becoming members , and opened their membership books up to the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Both Labour and the Conservatives have had prominent Jewish members. In the case of Labour, one of the most famous was the venerable Manny Shinwell. The Tories had a Jewish leader in the shape of Michael Howard in the 1990s.
Gulzabeen Afsar’s comment, including the use of the Arabic term for Jew, suggests that she’s been influence by the weird anti-Semitism that was imported into the Arab and Muslim world from Nazi Germany during World War II, and which has gained massive currency in the Dar al-Islam after the foundation of Israel. wherever the anti-Semitism comes from, this is an extremely sinister development, and if the Tories had any integrity, they’d discipline Afsar immediately.
For all Cameron’s ostentatious displays of trying to kick racism out of the Tories, such as throwing out those members with links to the NF and BNP, this shows it’s still very much alive. And it’s especially dangerous in UKIP, very many of whose members have made it clear that they would not support a Jewish Prime Minister.
It’s amazing that 200 years after Disraeli this attitude is till around in this country.

Perhaps more shocking, because it is so banale is Gulzabeen Asfar;s comment that “he just can’t take Ed Miliband seriously”.
Regardless of whether it results from anti-semitism, racism or another source, the inability to “take other people seriously” is endemic in our society. Whether it is calling drowning asylum seekers “cockroaches”, injured bystanders in Northern Ireland “collateral damage”, or calling people held captive n disgusting conditions either “kuffir” or “illegal combatants” the one thing that runs through this is a failure to even acknowledge, let alone respect, people’s common humanity.
It also becomes impossible to take politics seriously when political debate consists of dismissing the views of the opposition by the ad hominem technique of heaping witty abuse on them until we have established to our own satisfaction that they are not people whose views we need to listen to.
(I mean Gulzabeen Asfar! He might not be Jewish, but with a name like that he’s hardly going to be a WASP. Plus he’s a Tory, so obviously an idiot. You get the point, This story is a PC wet dream: overt (and vicarious) anti-semitism which we are all condemning, plus covert islamaphobia which we are all too polite to mention as well as too broad-minded to feel. A double-helping of self-congratulation for out right-on attitudes is in order. Plus, we can ignore what he is saying.)

While not close to matching UKIP gaffe for gaffe the Tories are comfortably clear of the rest in second place.

Those in the disabled community have always said that once they had finished their business demonising and thrashing the disabled and chronically ill, they would go after other groups. The Tory manifesto proposes effectively making any strike illegal. The grass roots are obviously emboldened, as with the Sun and that Katie Hopkins, sufficiently to start overt racist attacks. It’s so sad to see so many in the UK turned so easily into this.

This is outright racism, it’s despicable and this tory should investigated by the police. How much lower can these tories get, they must be extremely desperate to hit this all time low. They really should be ashamed of themselves. Mr Milliband WILL be the next PM.

We’ve already seen Tory and UKIP candidates advocate enforced abortions of disabled children and the marking of those who have mental problems with wristbands. Ed Milliband is often attacked by right-wingers on policy (fair enough) but we’re seeing an atmosphere where the far right are not shy about extremism of any kind. At a time when the liberation of Bergen-Belsen is being commemorated it is no exaggeration to say that old fears are rising.
