At £5000 a day Jack Straw is not really cheap is he? You could have 610 young workfare claimants (all under 25 years old) for the same price. Or an even higher number of disabled ones, as they are shortly to be discounted.
Additionally, the work experience claimants are more likely to turn up on time and less likely to expect a comfy chair and half a bottle of your best booze.
I wonder if these ex-MPs will shortly come to regret having priced themselves out of the market?

I wrote my comment without really thinking through the implications of workfare. Actually, you would be PAID for having the young people, so 610 of them wouldn’t cost you the £5000. The only limit is how many you could cram in without making your office insanitary.
There would also be an additional bonus in that if any of them later got a job, even if it was nothing to do with you, you would be paid an incentive (not a benefit) of around £1000. Double bonus for a disabled one. That’s paid for out of taxation..
Don’t be silly, of course it won’t put YOUR taxes up. Word to the wise. HSBC.
