(not satire – it’s the UKIP!)
A UKIP parliamentary candidate has been found guilty of starving to death over 260 sheep and lambs.
Although the party has today deselected him, UKIP chose Cornwall farmer David Evans to stand for them in the Camborne and Redruth AFTER Evans had already been arrested and charged with animal cruelty:
UKIP candidate David Evans faces jail over the deaths of 260 sheep
Perhaps UKIP doesn’t think being accused of starving animals to death is a serious enough matter to warrant further investigation.
But if this is what UKIP members do to animals they’re in charge of – imagine what they could do to the country if they were put in charge of that?

May I suggest that Mr. Evans be put on the same diet that he had those poor animals on?

From the Ukip point of view this seems to make him an ideal future minister for the disabled.

I’m only surpised that it was only 250 sheep and lambs. If Ukip, genuinely, wanted us to return to the ‘middle ages’ — or even before — I would have expected a mass cull!

He’s been deselected and he’s probably going to jail for animal cruelty. Job done! What’s the problem?

Either ukip has a flawed selection process, what other political party (or many employers) would select a candidate (job applicant) who had already been arrested and charged with animal cruelty? Or ukip (as in the case of Dave Small http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/may/24/ukip-councillor-investigation-racist-homophobic-facebook-comments) deliberately picks ‘fruitcake’ candidates to blow silent dog whistle?
In fact, they blow not a silent dog whistle but a panpipe of silent dog whistles.
ukip’s technique reminds me of that used by lawyers in programmes like Law and Order (the US version). Make an outrageous, even offensive comment during the cross examination of a witness, one designed to advance your case. Then happpily retract when either the judge or opposing council objects to it.
The judge cannot, of course, wipe the jury’s mind of those few minutes of retracted cross examination. He or she can only enjoin the jury not to take that part of the trial into consideration when deciding whether or not the accused is guilty, as charged.
If ukip were a prosecutor or defence lawyer in a US Court then, every few minutes, a cry of “Retraction, your Honour!” would be heard in the courtroom.
Why does Goebbels and his Big Lie spring to mind? And why am I reminded of, “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.” (Various!)

The answer is obvious. An applicant in either case is under no obligation to declare to the employer or political party that they have been charged with an offence, because at that point they are innocent of any crime.

Dave Small had not committed any offence, but was a known racist, homophobe and misogynist when he was a selected as a candidate by ukip. He is hardly unique as far as ukip is concerned.
In addition, whilst an individual might be under no legal obligation to declare that they have been arrested and charged with an offence, it is normal practice in party selections to ask potential candidates if there is any issue that has not been included in their application or which has not come up in the Q&A that might have a bearing upon their suitability as a candidate. Either ukip does not ask such a question or does not consider such matters (if admitted to) as being of much account.
Dave Small forced a by election after his election in May costing the taxpayer for ukip’s ‘mistake’.

That wasn’t what you said in your first post about his selection, and I would have agreed with you if you had. Besides, aren’t those part of the UKIP job description? In which case their selection process was far from flawed – it worked perfectly!

No, his name is Dave Small http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/may/24/ukip-councillor-investigation-racist-homophobic-facebook-comments. He being another example of ukip’s curious selection process. Pick someone offensive; get him elected; he sounds off; they say he is entitled to his views, but it is not party policy; make a sort of half apology and then shuffle him into the background.
And now we know about this chap http://wp.me/p1U04a-8eN then it is more than likely that this process is a deliberate silent dog whistle policy. He seems to have more power within ukip than Mandelson had within Labour pre 1997.
