The Tories have a nice meme they’re using on social media to claim Theresa May’s divorce deal with the EU means the European Court of Justice will no longer be able to make judgements over British courts:
Apart from the fact that this is not true – the meme unfortunately features a photograph by US photographer Chris Ryan of a US judge sitting in a US court.
Gavels are never and have never been used in British courts.
Perhaps the Tories are trying to tell us something?

It’s a Freudian slip. They’re telling us that we will be subject to U.S. laws and not our own. Especially where it comes to corporate law. In the U.S. companies now have people status.

Actually nothing has changed. The ECJ does have oversight over UK courts and there will be free movement of people for many years to come. A pyrrihic victory, methinks.
Still, passes for truth where the desperate tories live.

What they are really saying is forget the European courts rulings, lets go to America instead, after all they control our defence, NHS, business schools, so why not the Law, it’s perfectly logical to them.
But then logic is not their strong point either.

This blog seems to have totally missed the important political and judicial point. It’s not the photo which should concern anyone with half a brain, it’s that this Tory meme is simply FALSE, because the ECJ is still making judgements which affect the UK and (under the current plan) will continue to do so for 2 years or more after Brexit.
[Which of course is mentioned, – with a link – in the blog post. And which thanks to this blog – written without a penny of payment – has now been clicked through by tens of thousands of people. As opposed to losers like you who sit on the sidelines doing nothing except wasting their time constantly picking and whining and carping about nothing. Please do me favour and fuck off from my blog. Thank you.] – TOM
