(not satire – it’s the Daily Telegraph!)
The Telegraph claimed* yesterday that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un supports Scottish independence.
Some people might think this kind of story shows the desperation of the NO campaign in its bid to discredit the case for Scottish independence, but here at Pride’s Purge we think reporting on the opinions of world dictators is an important and useful addition to the independence debate.
So that’s why we’ve done a detailed survey of other dictators to see what they think of Scottish independence.
Here are the results:
King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia – NO
Kim Jong-un of North Korea – YES
President Putin of Russia – NO
President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan – DON’T KNOW
Li Keqiang of the People’s Republic of China – NO
President Mugabe of Zimbabwe – DON’T KNOW
Ayatullah Ali Khamenei of Iran – YES
So excluding DON’T KNOWS – this important new poll shows a CLEAR MAJORITY of world dictators support the NO campaign.
Someone should tell the Telegraph.
.
*As far as I’m aware, the Daily Telegraph is still supposed to be a real newspaper, not a parody of political satire. ‘News’ stories like this make me wonder if it hasn’t missed its calling.

You forgot the great dictator of Thailand. Prayuth believes in black magic. So, I assume he was not asked as you would probably get arrested for republicanism.

“Ozone layer: Don’t give into the politics of fear
I am sure there will be many people who will use the report that the ozone layer is thickening to say it proves that we must take action on man-made climate change. I personally think it proves nothing. It certainly doesn’t prove that we must impose taxes which hit the poorest the hardest, stifle debate and try to legislate this country back to the Stone Age, saying the science is decided.
What started as global warming became climate change when it was clear that global temperatures were cooling. And those of us who say that changes are bigger than us as a species are attacked. We must always question, always debate and never stop our quest for scientific progress and understanding. The green lobby will hate that but they have a vested interest in the politics of fear on the environment.”

Tom – Why the “An independent Scotland will have little influence internationally” bit at the end. Are those your words or a mistake?

I’m glad it wasn’t your opinion, but it is the opinion of many people on the “no” side. To them I would say just wait and see the international media reaction if Scotland becomes the very first country in the world to disarm itself of nuclear weapons, and de facto forces the UK to do the same.
