(not satire – it’s the BBC!)
George Galloway MP is claiming the head of BBC Scotland Ken McQuarrie has banned him from appearing on BBC Young Voters’ Question Time today.
And to be fair, the possibility of something fishy going on is somewhat supported by a BBC Scotland spokesman’s explanation for the sudden change of heart:
“It’s not uncommon for panel line-ups to change before such topical debates take place. We’ll be very happy to announce the panellists once they’re confirmed tomorrow.”
Not a convincing explanation, I’m sure you would agree.
Still – in his usual combative style, Mr Galloway is promising fireworks anyway:
.
Which is just as well because, love him or hate him, Galloway is probably the NO camp’s most convincing speaker in its lacklustre campaign against Scottish independence.
.
Please feel free to comment. And share. Thanks:

You have a typo there you misspelled “No camp’s most deluded and contradictory self-publicist and narcissist”
And that’s in a campaign with Farage in it.
If he wants to continue to team up with the Orange Order, the BNP, Britannia, UKIP, the Tories and other assorted reactionary loons against actual Socialists, get him on TV!

This is a very unwelcome development and doesn’t bode well for freedom of expression in an independent campaign. Shame on Nicola Sturgeon in particular if she was behind the pressure for Galloway to be dropped. People on both sides of this crucial debate should be allowed to have their voice heard. Has there been any official response from the BBC QT team?

Obviously nug hasn’t heard of the SSP, or the Greens. Even the SNP are left of centre even thought they are very centrist
Galloway stood for election in 2011. I got almost as many votes as he did and I didn’t stand.
He waited outside the SEC to be called in as victor, so he could announce his triumph
He slunk away, unwanted
His ego may be enough for 500,000 normal people, but he has no support or constituency, just the remnant of a reputation and a slanty fedora

George made comments regarding Israel that have made him a liability to the Better Together campaign. The BBC has been quite protective of the campaign in its reporting. For example, after consulting with BBC heads in London, BBC Scotland have decided not to report on Sunday’s Orange Order march in favour of the union. A difficult decision given that 15,000 marchers are expected in the middle of Edinburgh plus thousands of onlookers. Thousands are travelling in from Northern Ireland for this. If you’re not sure of the relevance then consider Glasgow to be ‘Belfast Lite’ and then picture Ian Paisley being asked to join the IRA. THAT’S how explosive this is. During the last, much smaller, better tempered, march there were running fights, disorder and a 12 year old girl was glassed. Early arrivals by BNP campaigners for the union have seen a campaigner, in the middle of a speech, go into the crowd and assault a pregnant woman by kicking her in the stomach. There have been numerous death threats to members an leaders of the YES campaign. YES information shops have been vandalised and one set on fire, campaigners attacked and abused. An elderly gent wearing a YES sticker in Edinburgh had his arm broken when he was assaulted by a woman who was shouting pro unionist hate slogans at him. Even the First Minister was chased in his official car by a unionist extremist. All this has been reported and there have been convictions for the death threats. Strangely, the only thing considered newsworthy was when Jim Murphy (Better Together) got egged when giving a speech. Far be it for me to suggest that Auntie could be biased BUT they have failed to report; the Monsanto march, the anti-austerity march, the multiple anti-bias protests and the anti-war (Gaza) march. In total over 200,000 took to the streets and were ignored by our state broadcaster for some reason…

Not quite. Prescott has just nudged him to the finishing line for the silliest ‘intervention’ yet
” Lord Prescott burbled something about how if the UK stayed together, England and Scotland could combine their national football teams. “You’re a mental case!” honked another heckler. ”

He lost his pals in Bradford and he lost Respect ana’
He tried tae be the boss but they jjuist widnae play ata’
They flung him oot o England noo he’s greeting for his maw

He’d rather hae Westminster and the Union Jack as well,
Let’s gie him a couple o Tridents subs and sent him back tae Hell,

I know, the SNP is so pro-big business that the City pals of Cameron and Miliband are making threats
My wishes were granted. Galloway seems to have pushed a fair few NO voters to YES by being, well, himself

As I understand it, people didn’t want Galloway on the platform because he is a rape apologist. Patrick Harvie, in particular, was very unhappy at sharing the platform with a rape apologist, and said so. Galloway made a complete fool of himself on The Big Big Debate – so much so that some people thought he’d been planted by the Yes campaign to make the Nos look bad.

Since George Galloway claimed to have been banned he has been on the BBCs ‘Big Debate’ with the 16-18 year old voters putting their questions. But with Mr Galloway not being a cabinet member or MP for a constituency in Scotland (unless they moved Bradford) or member of any official campaign or entitled to vote in the referendum I can only think he wishes to be included because of his accent and either a misguided sense of paternalism or even, dare I say it, an overwhelming chance at self aggrandisement with his ‘Just Say Naw’ tour where he has spoken on the union and sold books, sold autographs and sold tickets to the event to promote unionist socialism. He took the tour to Northern Ireland where he did what every politician has tried to do for decades. He united unionists, nationalists and republicans – yes, now they ALL hate him..
