Why is Theresa May’s former-Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab – and other top Tories – so hell-bent on a hard Brexit?
In 2011, Raab said in a policy paper for the rabidly right-wing think-tank the Centre for Policy Studies that holiday pay, the minimum wage, maternity leave and pension contributions for British workers are all ‘strait jackets’ for British businesses and should all be scrapped.
All of which are currently guaranteed under EU regulations.
Coincidence?
.
Here’s a copy of Raab’s shocking policy paper if anyone wants to read it:

No, it is not a coincidence, it is very basic Tory thinking. No wonder that Mrs. May is alerting the army In the event of a ‘hard Brexit’. Britain is going to be relegated to a third world country after the Tories have finished with it. The world’s center for tax havens where the poor and the middle classes can be plundered by the likes of Farage, Reece-Mogg, Johnson et al. Wait ’till the Trump brigade gets into negotiating their so-called Trade Deal’. We seem utterly powerless to avert disaster, but we can, at least, take to the streets and try to throw the buggers out, with force if needs be.

@kathy, really? People said the same thing over privatisation of the NHS and removal of ministerial liability. But, err, both of those things happened in 2012. If you really think the Tories will not seize the opportunity, as they’ve done with Education, Health, Welfare, Policing, the Emergency services, and so on since 2010, to further their hard right agenda, then I politely suggest your remove head from sand as the facts say – you’re wrong.

Blimey! – Do you really believe the UK is really so bad as to need the EU to protect its citizens?
How come we have already had zero hours contracts while in the EU?
I can’t see any party really going through that – they wouldn’t last 5 mins..

So… let me get this straight… “Tories plan to strip holiday pay, workers’ rights, employer pension contributions after Brexit”. Because ONE Tory, an EX-minister, proposed to an EXTERNAL group what he, personally, wanted to do? In 2011? You really are scraping the barrel, aren’t you? I wonder what your poster boy Corbyn was saying in 2011? Pathetic distortion of the facts may play well with your Marxist buddies, but the rest of us aren’t taken in. Even the Daily Fail is better than your ramblings. (And I’m sure you won’t allow my comments on your post, you don’t like criticism.)

Another one sided web page, blah blah blah we have heard all of yours and everyone else’s opinions mixed together with whatever facts you can cherry pick from anywhere that suits you but once, just once can we get someone to write an article that can do two sides of the story? Compare politics to a recently ended relationship, one person is telling their (true) story backed up by their facts the other the same and I can assure you both we different outcomes, don’t believe everything you read without being very analytical

I also suspect it has something to do with the new EU tax haven laws that were announced just a few short weeks before Cameron announced the Brexit referendum, and come into effect the month after we leave…

[Mewdar – unfortunately you have been hoodwinked. As you Brexiters always seem to be. The following statements you have written are all untrue. They were even supposed to be written by a British Army pilot. Unfortunately even that fact was a lie. I asked the pilot in question, and the Leave liars had even used his name without telling him. I think a lot of you remainers need reminding of the following.
TO ALL REMAINERS, IS THIS REALLY WHAT YOU WANT??
A STERN WARNING TO REMAINERS AND LOSERS!
So you now think you know what staying in the EU means but still want to stay in??
If you actually and really know all of these terms of the Lisbon treaty, signed on our behalf without our approval, and knowing this you still believe we should remain, I feel sorry for your love of country.
“What will actually happen if we stay in the EU” is a question no remainer will ever answer but here it is warts and all.
Check it out if you wish ——>>
1: The UK along with all existing members of the EU lose their abstention veto in 2020 as laid down in the Lisbon Treaty when the system changes to that of majority acceptance with no abstentions or veto’s being allowed.
2: All member nations will become states of the new federal nation of the EU by 2022 as clearly laid out in the Lisbon treaty with no exceptions or veto’s.
3: All member states must adopt the Euro by 2022 and any new member state must do so within 2 years of joining the EU as laid down in the Lisbon treaty.
4: The London stock exchange will move to Frankfurt in 2020 and be integrated into the EU stock exchange resulting in a loss of 200,000 plus jobs in the UK because of the relocation. (This has already been pre-agreed and is only on a holding pattern due to the Brexit negotiations, which if Brexit does happen, the move is fully cancelled – but if not and the UK remains a member it’s full steam ahead for the move.)
5: The EU Parliament and ECJ become supreme over all legislative bodies of the UK.
6: The UK will adopt 100% of whatever the EU Parliament and ECJ lays down without any means of abstention or veto, negating the need for the UK to have the Lords or even the Commons as we know it today.
7: The UK will NOT be able to make its own trade deals.
8: The UK will NOT be able to set its own trade tariffs.
9 The UK will NOT be able to set its own trade quotas.
10: The UK loses control of its fishing rights
11: The UK loses control of its oil and gas rights
12: The UK loses control of its borders and enters the Schengen region by 2022 – as clearly laid down in the Lisbon treaty
13: The UK loses control of its planning legislation
14: The UK loses control of its armed forces including its nuclear deterrent
15: The UK loses full control of its taxation policy
16: The UK loses the ability to create its own laws and to implement them
17: The UK loses its standing in the Commonwealths
18: The UK loses control of any provinces or affiliated nations e.g.: Falklands, Cayman Islands, Gibraltar etc
19: The UK loses control of its judicial system
20: The UK loses control of its international policy
21: The UK loses full control of its national policy
22: The UK loses its right to call itself a nation in its own right.
23: The UK loses control of its space exploration program
24: The UK loses control of its Aviation and Sea lane jurisdiction
25: The UK loses its rebate in 2020 as laid down in the Lisbon treaty
26: The UK’s contribution to the EU is set to increase by an average of 1.2bn pa and by 2.3bn pa by 2020
I bet many of you didn’t even realise this Treaty even existed, now be honest would you REALLY want the UK to loose all these rights by staying in? I know I certainly don’t…………UK would NEVER be UK ever again.

If you were to get in touch with A.C.A.S. They would tell you that employers do not have to pay workers holiday pay. This was a right that was scrapped years ago. If look at Gov .UK website it tells you that. Employers do not have to give paid leave.

@mewdar, please don’t post rubbish on here. That has all been factchecked long ago, and it’s a load of utter tosh. It was been taken from a leave website, which itself has been discredited, and, were leavers not so mentally lazy, you could have gone away and found out for yourself that none of it is true. But no, that would have involved reading big words with more than one syllable and that would tax your mental stamina far too much. Oh, and yes I have fact checked it for myself using easily accessible govt and EU documents.

@bri and ‘John Scott’, yes, and we all said not govt would ever dare allow the privatisation of the NHS, and remove the responsibilty of running it from the minister of health – but the Tories did. We said that the Tories would never dare strip redundancy rights from public servants, attack pensions, and slash Police numbers, but, err, they did. We said that they wouldn’t attack workers rights (not covered by the EU) or health and safety laws, but that as the very first thing they did. Tell me, are all Brexit supporters determined to ignore the reality of allowing the Tories a free hand, or is it just the idiots that infest the web?

Raab states explicitly in his article that the first seven of his proposals are doable without the consent of the EU. The remaining three would require its consent. The article was written well before Brexit was even on the horizon and you are twisting things by making out that what Raab thinks might be a good idea is necessarily going to occur post-Brexit. And what makes you think that the conservative European politicians who run the EU would not be prepared at some point in time to give the go ahead for such policies if it suited them? At least we have more direct control over what Westminster might decide.
