A touching tweet and heartfelt blogpost from a Douglas Dowell about how he has left the Labour Party because of anti-semitism has been shared extensively on social media:
In the blogpost, Mr Dowell talks touchingly about how he has “no choice but to resign from the Labour Party” and he says that “someday, I hope there will once again be an anti-racist, internationalist, reliably constitutional social democratic party worth joining.”
Perhaps Douglas is referring to the Liberal Democrats?
Because what Dowell ‘forgets’ to mention is that he is the same Douglas Dowell who was employed in Nick Clegg’s office before he lost his seat, as the Policy Team Leader for the Liberal Democrat Party:
I wonder why no mainstream journalist has yet noticed this little fact?

Douglas left the Lib Dems in 2010, in the early months of the coalition. I didn’t realise he’d actually joined Labour, and I can’t prove that either way, but he was certainly vocal in declaring he was going to vote Labour in 2015.
So yes, he is the same Douglas Dowell who worked in Clegg’s office before he lost his seat…but well over four and a half years before!
I don’t know what Douglas will do now, but he hasn’t stated he is returning to the Liberal Democrats. I don’t see any “dirty tricks” here – just someone who doesn’t feel much loyalty to political parties – he isn’t the first party staffer to switch his allegiance and he won’t be the last.

Except that list of employees misses out a really vital point…it was from 2010….on his own FB page he has in 2015 ‘Im voting Labour’, he left the LibDems because of the coalition after 2010….so really poor try at diverting away from his message and an even poorer attempt at smearing the LibDems

No one could “smear” the LibDems any more than they themselves have already done when they cosied up to the Conservative Party. At that point I stopped voting LibDem and will never, ever do so again.

He left the party and Clegg’s employment over austerity in 2010. Joined Labour and backed them in social media in 2015 and 2017

I am becoming more and more convinced that this whole ‘Anti Semitism’ controversy is being stoked by Israel purely because JC won’t condone the atrocities being perpetrated by this Vicious state. I don’t like to think that Conspiracy Theories are alive and kicking but in this case I believe they are.

Sounds like the UK political scene is as rooted and toxic as that in the US. Why have we such miserable politicians and no statesmen?

The Libdems have always attacked Labour in order to position themselves as the moderate centre party, locally they always smeared us, but anyone that has read the Libdem Orange Book, knows that they were anything but a centre party, which was why they enabled the Tories to privatise the NHS. The idea also, that they would abolish or reduce tuition fees went against the real policies they wanted to pursue.
Libdems like the Tories and New Labour, were ardent Neo-Liberals determined to shrink the state, privatisation has been a disaster and if we want to revive the economy will have to be reversed.

Of course you will dislike him for leaving Labour, but what is the “dirty trick” here?

This is almost as bad as some of the dirty tricks actually played against the Labour Party. Poor journalism.

Anyone with a smidgen of intelligence knows that these attacks on Corbyn and the labour membership have nothing whatsoever to do with anti-Semitism. They are purely the only way they feel they can try to stop a labour government ,

They don’t want to stop a Labour Government because it would benefit them if Labour were in power BUT what they do want is rid of Jeremy Corbyn at the expense of a Labour Government & are willing to decimate the Party to achieve this aim.
