Being such a politics geek – and being very very old – I’ve seen quite a few party leader’s conference speeches in my time, but it’s safe to say Theresa May’s speech today was the most disastrous by quite a long way.

Before the bungling May even started, Kemi Badenoch introduced the hapless PM to the stage too early, forgetting there would first be an introductory video.

When May finally did start speaking, she almost immediately developed a coughing fit which lasted for the entire speech.

Then prankster Simon Brodkin  – aka Lee Nelson – interrupted the speech and evaded security to hand May her P45 in person:

Finally, just as May got to the part of her speech where she announced “an image of modern Britain” – a letter ‘F’ fell off the slogan on the wall behind her, quickly followed by a letter ‘E’.

And if all that wasn’t bad enough – it now turns out Theresa May nicked parts of her speech from the US TV political series the West Wing!

This was an “image of modern Britain” indeed:

TORY BODGE JOB to be exact.
