The external cladding recently fitted to the tragic Grenfell Tower was a well-known fire risk before the cladding was fitted.
The tower building had been over-clad with Aluminium Composite Material cassette rainscreen, which has been blamed for several tower fires around the world, including in Australia and the UAE.
The company responsible for fitting the cladding – Harley Curtain Wall Ltd – went into administration shortly after fitting the panels. However, directors of the company continue to trade under a slightly different name, Harley Facades Ltd.
It has also been revealed that Grenfell Tower residents had been complaining about fire risks for some time before the tragic fire – particularly criticising councillors and the Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation.
It seems the owners of the tower, Kensington and Chelsea council, have a lot of questions that will need to be answered.

I would like to send out from this blog a few words of sympathy and condolences to any people affected by this awful tragedy who might be reading this, and profound thanks to the emergency services and the local community who have done so much to help under harrowing circumstances.

These aluminium composite cladding panels from China are available in 2 options – with either a mineral core (fire retardant) or polyethylene core (flammable). Guess which one is cheaper and guess which one they used……

Again its the people and services responding with humanity ,its all so sad ,, governing authorities (term used very lightly) ..”we will ask questions” well hoo bloody rah. Most people in this country are awesome and desrve better ,far far better than this . Good unselfish people keep giving me hope that one day we will all join hands and oust .

Why is this cladding being used at all?? It’s b en proved to be a fire risk in Australia after a huge audit after the 2014 fire there why haven’t our fire regs been upgraded to the same level to protect our citizens as well they spent millions of dollars removing the cladding from all buildings and bringing them up to a new fire reg code in the wake of the 2014 fire they spared no expense auditing buildings nationwide, why havent we taken notice and done the same ?? It’s discracefull that people’s lives are worth so little

They used the cheap cladding purely as a facade to “pretty-up” the tower because it was an eyesore to their very wealthy neighbours.
Internal safety was not even considered.

Theresa May was one of 311 Tory MPs who blocked an amendment put forward by Labour to ensure private landlords made homes “fit for human habitation”:

72 of those Tory MPs were private landlords themselves.
Makes you wonder considering the Grenfell fire was reportedly started by an exploding fridge, an electrical item that should be checked for tenants’ safety.

My fellow feeling and pity also go to the victims of this tragedy, I think the guilt for this catastrophe can be set squarely on environmentalist & the special interest group. This building was not designed to be clad with insulation. Incorporating insulation in the cladding was the hazard, not cladding system itself. Without the insulation there would have been no fire. But insulation was a green precondition.
