Danny Morrison is famous for coining the phrase ‘Armalite and ballot box‘ to describe the Provisional IRA’s then strategy of pursuing armed struggle while at the same time Sinn Féin contested elections.
Douglas Hurd is one of the Conservative Party’s most senior elder statesmen and later became Home Secretary under Thatcher.
Hurd’s meeting with the IRA would have taken place at the height of the IRA’s military campaign which involved murders of British soldiers as well as civilians.
It would also have been just a short time after a 15-month-old baby boy was killed in a car bomb explosion planted by the IRA at Harmin Park, Glengormley in January 1977.
The news of the contacts between senior Tories and the IRA comes not long after it was revealed a former IRA member is now a sitting Conservative Party councillor in Croydon.

Not that shocking ,Thatcher had many deals with them after the Brighton bombing and let a few go. If all in all it ended the troubles I can’t see a point in reminiscing.
Dont agree with anyone linked to an organization that condoned its activities, however long ago, should be allowed to make a living off the taxpayer as a counciller or minister.

The tories may well have talked to the iRA in the 1970’s, but they didn’t stand shoulder to shoulder with them and call them friends and go on Pro IRA marches with them.

SIm, Corbyn not only didn’t “stand shoulder to shoulder” with the IRA, as you allege, he never met them – just Sinn Fein. He didn’t go on pro-IRA marches, but on marches to protest some of the worst miscarriages of justice in the history of this country. And unlike the Tories, he never hid or denied but always proudly acknowledged what he was doing, while the Tories continued to pretend they would never talk to terrorists long after the need for secrecy had passed, while hypocritically castigating Corbyn for his efforts to seek peace in Northern Ireland.
The difference is between honesty and openness on one side, and dishonesty, hypocrisy and secrecy on the other side. I know who I’d trust.

You all realise that Martin McGuiness and Jerry Adams and other Sinn Fein politicians are or were at some stage,even today,members or our Parliament??they don’t sit in the chamber as that would constitute the oath, but do of course have access. The royals even some years ago became acquaintances of JA and M Mc. People seem to have moved on,pity the Tory press has not.

Yes, I did read your post in full.
I responded as I saw fit, as is my prerogative as an individual with thoughts and opinions of my own (as yet not against the law).
I don’t dispute that there’s hypocrisy from politician from all side of the political spectrum.
When replying to your comment, I wasn’t trying to cover the whole gamut of hypocrisy across the political spectrum on terror / war / conflicts of all descriptions over the past 3-5 decades (tat wold take a whole blog in itself)…
My point was the current hypocrisy of the Tories in mis-portraying Jeremy Corbyn’s (and others’) meetings with Sinn Féin members / politicians / elected members as being something other than what it was.
Meeting, as a politician of one party, with a member of another political party is not in itself an act of sedition, unless one or other of those parties is proscribed. As far as I’m aware, neither Sinn Féin nor The Labour Party have ever been proscribed.
Unless you would like to suggest that, had the MPs elected from Sinn Féin taken up their seats in Parliament, then attended any session in Westminster would have constituted an act of sedition by every attending MP fro other political parties?
That would be a ludicrous position to take and one I’m not suggesting you have done or will do.

I think Jeremy Corbyn does this better than any other prominent politician in the England at the moment. I look forward to Tom Pride and commenters such as you following his example!

Bias isn’t a lie by the way it’s a thought pattern ..ie greed, self and dictatorship with megla maniac delusion that only you know best is a bias and I would be lying if I said the ‘glue’ that holds the tories voters and MP’s together isn’t just that . I would be lying if I also said the whole of westminister isn’t under the same dillusion. However I would be being honest if I said in my opinion Corby was a breath of fresh air and principles and morals that I havent seen in my lifetime from any government body since Thatcher.
If you can think for yourself nothing biased is dishonest ,its a viewpoint ,as for balance ,well Tom isnt a mainstream national paper hes a blogger so he can blog his little heart out with his view of the world…you should do the same with your honest balanced theory and direct it at the mainstream news corps imo.

I’m surprised that Tom Pride, who was rightly outraged about the murder of Jo Cox, is entirely silent about this being said on his web site. I wonder if this is due to political bias at the expense of human decency and morality.

If hung though and as in their case I’m incredibly biased and handicapped in giving a thought to eithers fate, I wouldnt be in line for a taxpayer funded job (or want it) as you are proof that mine isnt the only opinion and people have different values surrounding justice.
In your case I would imagine you wouldnt also be up for a taxfunded job as you like to claim things and moral high grounds without fact or justifications ,I assume somewhere you have a sense of right and wrong otherwise you wouldnt want to continue this ,,so Get digging for injustices you feel are worth fighting for and exposing ,in line with your minds vision of utopia and blog away .
Use your first one on hanging and accusations and the disgrace of made up scenarios and I will be signing up on your blog ,…just one thing though …You need to put the work in to find issues ,so maybe a journalist degree or the likes will help or even a law degree to shuffle through .
