(not satire – it’s the Tories!)
So we’ve finally found out know what Tories mean when they say “Brexit means Brexit”.
Former banker, Tory minister and very very nearly Tory leader Andrea Leadsom has revealed that post-Brexit the Tories want British workers* to work as fruit pickers.
So Brexit means …
- … British workers living in tents.
- … wages as low as £6.70 an hour.
- … seasonal contracts only
- … bullying supervisors.
Glad we finally sorted that little mystery out then.
.
*The Tories are really really keen on us all to pick fruit. In March, former Tory minister Owen Paterson also said British pensioners should pick fruit for less than the minimum wage.
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it’s off to work we go……………………….

None of this should come as a surprise to anyone who carefully followed the mutterings of chief Brexit ‘economist’ Patrick Minford who said “Over time, if we left the EU, it seems likely that we would mostly eliminate manufacturing” and went on to say “but there will always be jobs for people without sophisticated skills”. Now we know what these unsophisticated jobs are I guess…..

The TORIES are nothing more than total ARESHOLES who seem to think they’ll be in office for ever, not a chance.
Labour has/is reforming the group and they will support J C no matter what.

In all seriousness that wouldn’t happen. The bosses only get away with the conditions now because they know the eastern europeans will do it (because it’s better than their conditions back home). If there were only Brits available the pay and conditions would have to be improved to reflect their living costs and I don’t see why many wouldn’t take on the job. One reason they don’t now is the perceived stigma. After all, we brits used to do this work before the open borders didn’t we?

The only thing stopping the rapid increased deployment of mechanised crop picking is that humans are cheaper, and better at picking good from bad. Remove the cheap labour, and mechanisation will rapidly increase.

Makes you wonder if the new BBC2 programe about life in the Victorian slums, is really meant to educate us about history or to advise us how to manage in a future Tory Britain.

And how long before they are charged council tax and rent for living in a tent?

I like to think there is more to our little Island and Brexit than just fruit picking.
Appears to me you are just Nit picking Tom.
I think you should be packed off to a Kentish Gulag and made to pick radish until your fingers bleed.
