Tory Culture Secretary John Whittingdale has been accused of being involved in a sex scandal.
Any sex scandal involving a cabinet minister – especially one that also involves links with prostitutes and the underworld – is pretty juicy when it comes to scandals.
But when the scandal also involves a cover-up by the UK press – simply because the politician involved is in charge of government policy on press regulation – then it becomes dynamite.

CULTURE SECRETARY JOHN WHITTINGDALE CAUGHT IN PROSTITUTION SCANDAL
Although I can’t verify the facts of the story myself – the information comes from the hand of Natalie Rowe, who did come up with the goods on the George Osborne cocaine/sex scandal.

I think this sort of stuff is somewhat sordid and funnily enough, I do not mean the relationship between Olivia King and Whittingdale. I mean instead, the attempts to make someone’s private relationship which has thus far caused no harm to anyone the subject of sensationalist and tabloid style expose. It really should be beneath you to do this. Alternative sexualities are common and perfectly healthy and those who indulge in them are should not be publicly shamed. Sex workers are not inherently part of some shady underworld nor are they always going to seek to blackmail their clients or lovers. This attitude of faux shocked censoriousness would have been more expected in the 1950s and is just a tawdry attempt to score political points. I am a Labour member and massive supporter of Corbyn, but I also believe we shouldn’t use personal and private relationships to smear our political opponents. It is cheap and nasty.
[The real scandal here is about the media. Read the link. The relationship between the press and the government minister in charge of regulating it can not in any way be described as “private”] – TOM

“Tory cabinet minister John Whittingdale accused in prostitution scandal”
Mr Pride – You seem to have forgotten to mention what he’s been accused of, and by whom.
[Mr Hewson – you seem to have forgotten to read the blogpost to the end. And how to click on the link provided there.] – TOM

Mr Pride – I didn’t forget. Neither byline.com nor Rowe made an accusation. Can you explain what offence Whittingdale has been accused of and by whom?
[Sigh. That he “potentially jeopardized government security and left ministers open to blackmail.” You seem so strangely desperate to find any reason to defend Whittingdale and attack me you’re missing the obvious. Is that you Finkfurst?] – Tom

He “potentially jeopardized government security and left ministers open to blackmail”? Surely you’re kidding. Is that it? You could say exactly the same thing about countless thousands of MPs, civil servants, military personnel, security services, diplomats, etc. etc. Apparently some people are having trouble getting to grips with reality!

Mr Pride – In view of the rank hypocrisy from the BBC today about this ‘public interest story’, would you care to explain why you decided to write a blogpost about it when others judged differently? Did you think it was in the public interest, or were you just trying to embarrass any and all Tories with any straw you can grasp?
