The two main Brexit campaigns seem to have a talent for attracting some extremely dodgy people.
Now the Grassroots Out campaign have announced the appointment of one Alex Deane as their Executive Director:
Alex is an extreme right-winger – a former board member of the Young Britons Foundation famous for wanting to scrap the NHS and which has now been closed down after being linked to the recent Tatler Tory bullying scandal.
Alex has also himself written in praise of a US style privatised health system, calling the NHS a “monolithic, money-guzzling health system”.
Alex is a bit tinfoil hat about climate change too:
“I am deeply skeptical about the assertions made with pseudo-certainty by the green crowd about the effects of man on the environment, and I regard the straight-faced, portentous predictions of apocalypse-next-Tuesday-unless-we-tithe-to-Al-Gore with a healthy dose of cynicism”.
Oh and he doesn’t donate to the RSPCA or the National Trust because they oppose fox hunting, he refuses to donate to Oxfam because he reckons it “opposes free trade” and he doesn’t like the NSPCC because it opposes hitting kids.
Can’t the Brexiters find any normal people to front their campaigns?

But ‘EU institutions rule exclusively in the interests of corporations and finance capital and are the main drivers of austerity in our part of the world.’ as I just read elsewhere I wish the left would think about this Europe is clearly falling apart I say let’s give it a little hand so we can all just deal with the shit that follows and then get on with it.

Inny or an Outy? They are all one step beyond and then some. They are all in denial about something. None of it is healthy. I’m afraid this referendum is a publicly funded popularity competition with some very valuable prizes up for grabs. Either way the public will be the losers. Austerity? Deficit? Who cares? Lets have a referendum and see what falls out of the gullible Tax Payers money tree.

Deane is also a member of Media Intelligence Partners, alongside other such characters as Raheem Kassam, Harry Cole, Ryan Bourne, you get the gist. Through MIP Deane is a regular “commentator” on Sky news, BBC etc.
Make no mistake Deane is a smart cookie and political operator with all the contacts he needs.
And one huge advantage GO now have, is that Deane is not Dominic Cummings.

Hi Tom. I enjoy your news flashes about Tory skulduggery. What is your take on Brexit? I read what the Grauniad and Indepedent say, and note how they balance their commentary between In and Out, and there are cogent, non-raving-looney arguments for both cases. Likewise, the economist, New York Times and Washington Post. From here in Oz, it looked like the economic in benefits of Brexit would be minimal, and that the issue of sovereignty, rule by a faceless bureaucracy of a union that need reforming.
