The Cameron government is desperately trying to drum up support for fracking in a Tory held constituency by offering local constituents £180 bribes (of taxpayers’ money) to attend pro-fracking ‘workshops’.
But locals who are openly anti-fracking are barred from attending.
Parents in Wesham in Lancashire, where fracking is due to take place, are being approached on their way to taking children to school by ‘researchers’ – cunningly disguised as promo girls – claiming to work for the Department of Energy and Climate Change. The staff ask if individuals would like to take part in research on “future energy sources”.
But when one parent responded that she was anti-fracking, the ‘researcher’ told the local she was “not eligible” to take part in the study. The DECC ‘researchers’ are also going from door-to-door asking for participants.
Interestingly, anti-fracking feeling is extremely high in the Fylde constituency where these bribes are being offered.
Naturally, the fact the constituency has a Tory MP has no bearing at all on this matter.

Sorry, but in the advert it says they are a research company, does it mention the Department for Energy and Clımate Change as sponsorıng the event or that the £180.00 offer is made from government sources and not from the research company?
Or are you sımply taking the word of the anti fracking lobby?

You’d think that people who were anti-fracking would be the “eligible” ones who needed bribing and “educating” by the “researchers”.
According to a recent poll, the UK is 14th in the list of least corrupt countries in the world – a much worse result than before.

Ironically Preston North & Preston South used to be amongst marginal constituencies in the country
That all changed with Thatcher – as they are traditionally a Shires / Rural / Leafy suburbs / London & SE Home Counties party – call it what you like ! – they thought they were at a disadvantage – so they increased the MPs to 650
Audrey Wise was parachuted into Preston after the Tories got rid of Greater London Council – Audrey was a Bennite , pro CND – though many people relied on BAE Samlesbury & Warton for work , basically they knew Audrey was Audrey .
When the Tories won seats on Preston Council and the Lancashire County Council they saw it as revenge for voters deserting them because of Thatcher .
Robert Aitken used to have one of the seats , then he ‘ retired ‘ ‘ to spend more time with his family ‘ because the fall out on the very murky Owen Oyston case .
There was repercussions well beyond beyond Blackpool , Operation Angel in Preston – there was the rift between Geoff Driver the Tory council leader – and Valerie Wise who came up from London .
Basically this is a long winded way of saying though Lancashire is a ‘ funny ‘ conservative with a small c county with lots of true blue pockets – the Tories aren’t stupid , they know people have long memories and fracking could swing people against them .

As a general point I am in favour of fracking, partly because UK energy policy for the last 20 years has driven us to this position where we will really have no choice if we want to keep the lights on. I also believe that the scare stories about fracking are exaggerated.
That being said this isn’t the right way to win hearts and minds but when have we ever had a proper informed and technical debate about the pros and cons of different energy sources?
I am sure we we will see fracking proposals on our own doorstep soon based on our local geology so I will have to live by this position.

please study all the gas fields of USA and Australia to see how it starts small and inviting, then spreads without any safeguards or rights to claim damages until people are ill, air and water are contaminated and investors walk away.
And the lunacy is that solar, wind and wave power is all developed ready to go harmlessly..
