UPDATE: Premier Inn have now offered the homeless guy a free stay. Thanks to all who shared.

My son reserved a room at premier inn Barnsley for a homeless man he has become good friends with. He did this so the poor man wouldn’t be on the streets on Xmas night and would have a nice shower/bath and a warm bed for the night. Last night my son went to premier inn Barnsley to book this guy in and the woman on the desk said I say who sleeps in my hotel and he certainly isn’t my son said because he’s a homeless man your refusing him, with that she said if u don’t leave I’m phoning the police. My son and the bloke left heartbroken. Iv always stayed in your hotels but this time feel really let down

I am completely floored with this! The discrimination that is in this country is appalling. I will never use Premier Inn again until this is all sorted out.

I’ve stayed in a few Premier Inns before and seen some right noisy drunks coming in late at night and nowt said . Bet this homeless man would have been quiet and no bother . What an attitude for the receptionist to have-it’s awful !!

The link did work. They were alternating between non-apologies, citing regulations about paying with cash, and saying that they would investigate. They gave up and yanked not only that post but apparently all user posts on the page.

The boy’s Facebook page gives more details. Premier Inns were perfectly right to refuse to give a room to a young boy with no means of identification and no credit or debit card.

In such situations face the challenge and insist she call the police, in most cases (they) back down.

bobchewie – It was the 17 year old boy with a home who was refused the hotel room, not the homeless person.
A hotel receptionist will not give a room to ANYONE unless they can have ID or a credit/debit card. If a homeless person has ID and the means to pay then they will get the room. Sadly they are homeless because they do not.

Okay..it appears to check out…the story..so…lets look at the many angles….a young man..with an older male,trying to book a room….alarm bells….the older man ,has no ID,or credit cards( forget he is homeless,for a while,and also..how did the receptionist know,he was homeless,unless,one of the males,told her) …therefore…any damage,loss..to the room..would be blamed on the receptionist…and maybe costs….the young man,is a minor..and cannot book a room,on his own name…he would need an adult guarantor,legally….so,the receptionist,is doing her job..however..if she made those comments…about the homeless man…then she has failed in her job..and surely..she could have suggested…ringing the young mans parents….as a safeguard..as the mother has admitted,her son knows the other gent…but really,as a mum,i would be right there..checking this person out,that my young son,had befriended….and if she hadnt known until after..about the room booking…she should certainly,have a talk with her son..the homeless gent may well be a lovely person..but others…may not be…,if the mother only knew,aftervthe event..i find that quite scary….and if she knew beforehand,why was she not there,with them..as an adult,and guarantor,and use her credit cards…the receptionist,could have let the young man,ring home…as an act of kindness..to sort it all out…one thing i will say..many extablishments..with strangers residing..often inebriated..have female receptionists,and no security…food for thought methinks.

I am the young boys nanna, I need to comment to the person that said he is a minor & too young to book a room on the website. It states you have to be 16 years old to book a room my grandson is 17 and he did have id, he had a bank card he was never asked for it & Premier Inn kept giving different excuses as to why the homeless guy couldn’t have the room. My husband phoned to ask the reason & he also got abuse from the manageress & I think it’s disgusting how some of you are discriminating that he is a thief!!!!! It’s a good job not everyone think the same. Shame on you.
