While Labour members are busy tearing strips off each other – the Cameron government has tried to secretly slip out a report today showing the bedroom tax isn’t working.
The official study shows Cameron’s bedroom tax has not only failed to release more housing stock for needy families – as it was supposed to – but is simply driving families into hunger and debt.
We already know Cameron’s flagship policy has been making people homeless…
.
But now it’s official.
The question is – when is someone going to hold Cameron to account for his and his fellow ministers’ cruelty, dogmatism and downright incompetence?

For those of us who live in Scotland, the “Bedroom Tax” isn’t really an issue. I am living on my own in a 2-bedroom flat, since my son moved out in July. The Scottish Government have earmarked money to dissipate the effects of the “spare room subsidy”, so that people like me, who are on benefits, don’t have to choose between eating, heating and paying for a room that’s not being used. Having said that, there are no smaller houses available to allow tenants to move from a larger house. There is also an issue where pensioners have lived in their house for a large number of years, and who are comfortable and well-settled into their neighbourhood. To have to move to a smaller home in a different neighbourhood would cause them too much stress. Many of these people have lived in their house for 40 years or more. Why should they be forced to move from a neighbourhood where they are comfortable, and where they have support from their neighbours? The whole issue is causing a lot of needless stress and worse for those concerned.

i have room i have pay for even thow i am off sick . i need the room for my not so little girl who is 15 for when she comes to stay she comes stay every two weeks n ten days summer n x mass. n likes to have her own room . as shore can understand. is it right i have pay £66 a month rent for . or should i get smaller place n let her sleep on floor or soffa ?n have no were put her stuff or change ect . . is also nice for me to think she has room n could come live with me one day if she so wanted.

Sadly, I don’t think this was ever about making the bedroom tax ‘work’. It’s always been about the stress and the homelessness and the fear. That’s the real agenda and it’s worked for that.

Out of my £109.15 pw, I have to pay £27pw BT, then there’s £20pw gas, £20pw electric, £17.50pw water rates, £4.01pw TV licence, £7pw life insurance (taken out when I was working), and £5 phone (which I need cos of my health problems, must be able to contact a Dr straight away when needed)…..which leaves me with less than £10 for pet food, my food, clothes etc and anything else, like toiletries etc. After working all my life from the age of 17 through to age 57 and paid my dues in Income tax and N.I. contributions, I DON’T consider myself to be either scum or a scrounger!!!!!!

Fact is, this is a rich country with plenty of land ( outside the M25 anyway, check google earth). No reason why there should be a housing problem. It is purely a political choice to make housing scarce and expensive. The bedroom tax – imposed instead of building the needed houses – is just one aspect of this.

When Maggie thatcher bought in poll tax it caused mass demonstrations and roits, why nothing about bedroom tax? Have the British people gone soft?… Cameron has done no good for the uk, he has failed to keep almost all of his election promises and made millions of us suffer in one way or another… It’s time the uk got together and got him out…

Please stop calling it the “Bedroom Tax”! As everyone knows it is “The Spare Room Subsidy” Even BBC News knows after that nice Mr Duncan Smith sent them a missive telling them to stop saying “Bedroom Tax” all the time. He really is a jolly fellow, isn’t he? And, sooo helpful too.
