Reading. Passage from either book & forming an impression is why our world is a moral & spiritual mess (according to the media).
A bit like watching East Enders and having an opinion about Londoners…..
I have never been religious but was taught in Christian schools and they never mentioned verses like this in the Bible and it surprised me as much as those in the video. Maybe this might shut some western racist bigots mouths, but I doubt it
It’s actually not the Qu’ran you need to look at, although there are parts especially to do with women that aren’t exactly pleasant, but remember that Mohammed did marry a 6 year old child, so that really makes him a paedophile by today’s standards. By 7th century Islam standards which still operate now, it still makes him a paedophile.
The verses you need to look at are the Hadith. The hadith literature is based on spoken reports that were in circulation in society after the death of Muhammad. Unlike the Quran itself, which was compiled under the official direction of the early Islamic State in Medinah, the hadith reports were not compiled by a central authority. Hadith were evaluated and gathered into large collections during the 8th and 9th centuries, generations after the death of Muhammad, after the end of the era of the “rightful” Rashidun Caliphate, over 1000 km from where Muhammad lived.
The Hadith are the collections of the reports claiming to quote what the prophet Muhammad said verbatim on any matter. The term comes from the Arabic meaning “report”, “account” or “narrative”. Hadiths are second only to the Quran in developing Islamic jurisprudence, and regarded as important tools for understanding the Quran and commentaries (tafsir) on it. Many important elements of traditional Islam such as five salat prayers, the abhorrence of paintings and sculpture of living things, stoning adulterers, are mentioned in hadith but not the Quran. Some hadith are neutral in the view of Muslims while sunnah is recommended duty for Muslims.
Islam is quite complicated in that the different groups interpret the Qu’ran and the Hadith differently. The various Muslim factions place different importance on different issues.
All of the excerpts in the video above are from the Old Testament, pre Christian, the Old Testament was all about a vengeful God; a God who destroyed thousands on a whim, very unlike the loving God that Jesus preached about. This is why he was so at odds with the conservative Jewish religious leaders. That loving God didn’t at all resonate with them because to them God was a vengeful being.
The sad thing is that most people today don’t actually read books like the Qu’ran or the Hadith or the Old Testament or Torah of the Jewish faith, if they did, they might actually begin to understand just how complicated this whole issue is.
It’s ridiculous that even in the face of experiments such as this that people still try to flog the old “M******d was a paedo” line , Joseph was as old as 90 when he was betrothed to the adolescent Mary who would have been between 12-14 years old. Was he a Paedo too?
Are there no intelligent responses from anyone at all?
Ancient texts are just that.
Ancient.
We know the difference between right and wrong at their most base level, don’t we?
Never hurt a baby, disabled person, lady with-child.
Never hurt someone for being different from you.
Never ever EVER knowingly end or condone the taking of an innocent life.
Do we need an ancient text to remind us of that?

Excellent video…. points out that people are far too ready to form opinons based on very little knowledge.. some to the comments from people too show a woeful lack of understanding of either religion, and certainly no understanding that differences between religions really isn’t the problem anyway….
This video illustrates how most people have a risible knowledge and understanding of sacred texts and the different ways they can be read by people of faith, and of faith traditions in general. Yet despite this, most people feel able to comment on faith matters with confidence. Tragically, that’s no less true of many journalists, including one or two ‘religious correspondents’.
For a species which can only subjugate by contrived circumstance of an individual placated by their own deceit, action is entirely impotent to them they can only torture and sacrifice while recording the individual’s reaction and then print it as a religious text. This is what perpetuates the myth of their birth right to continue consuming you.
I strongly believe that the passages read out were from the Old Testament which is ignored by Christians – Christians being the followers of the doctrines of Jesus Christ and recorded in the New Testament.
I would suggest that for someone to make an informed, educated decision, it would be more effective to comprehensively read both the teachings of Mohammed and Jesus.
Anne: I really liked your expansive comment, it is so true what you said that Jewish, Hebrew-speaking, ‘religious’ leaders still cling to the Old Testament verses as their ‘Bible’ even though it has long been surpassed and supplanted altogether by the compassionate teachings and exhortations of the Lord Jesus Christ — such that Israel today is one very small war-mongering bullying little nation, at odds with all its surrounding countries, and always willing and ready to issue ‘payback’ and instant death for any perceived or imagined infringements….
The Dutch are already mostly atheistic in their beliefs, their nominally Christian culture notwithstanding. I guarantee you not one of the people fooled in this experiment holds any book or dogma sacred. To their great credit, the Dutch took it well, with a healthy mix of good humor and circumspection.
Pull this stunt in America, and you’ll likely get a much more hostile reaction. Americans are much more stubborn in their adherence to demonstrably irrational religious beliefs. People don’t like having their sacred beliefs challenged, and they certainly don’t like having their hypocrisies exposed to the light of day.
But then to be fair, we should imagine turning the tables too: disguising a Quran as a Bible, and running a similar social experiment in any Muslim-majority country. Anyone foolish enough to try such a stunt would be fortunate only to be arrested. If he were unlucky, he would meet with the very sort of mob barbarism espoused in many ancient texts, and condemned by all moral thinking people.
I suspect we will not see such an experiment in the near future. The reason is plain to see: millions of people on the planet have a lot of catching up to do before they are as reasonable as the Dutch. If you think the level of prejudice exhibited by the Dutch in this film is evidence of a problem, spare a thought for the atheists in Bangladesh, the Christians in Iraq, and the women in Saudi Arabia.

I am not sure about what this video reveals really. In my opinion it shows ignorance of the Bible rather than prejudice about the Koran.
