(not satire – it’s the UK today)
The police have arrested an election candidate for allegedly putting up an election poster.
No, I’m not making this up.
Lisa McKenzie – the Class War parliamentary candidate for Chingford and Woodford Green – was arrested by the police, thrown in a cell and bailed until just before the election:
Arrested election candidate ‘a political prisoner’
The arrest comes not long after Class War’s candidate for Croydon South, Jonathan Bigger, reported he was being followed and intimidated by as many as 12 police officers while he was on the campaign trail handing out election leaflets.
Whatever you may think of Class War‘s politics – they have candidates standing at the general election and they have the same right to campaign as any other candidate.
This is, of course, entirely undemocratic behaviour on the part of the Police – not to mention a complete waste of valuable police time, money and resources.
It seems to me the police may have got a little confused about who they should or should not be arresting.
So here’s a little reminder:
.
Hope that clears things up.

Although there are rules on where electioneering media can be put – this is just stupid.
I have to disagree with one of your points Tom – there are about 300 parliamentary candidates I would love to see arrested

What if the candidates were formerly MPs who may have fitted some of the classifications deserving arrest?

Can this be complained about at IPCC after all they have found police officers faking to carry out their duties when investigating VIP child sex abusers. My oh My before long we will be thinking that police roll is to serve the high and mighty and not the public interest. Oh wait..

When Coppers go into work I doubt they sit down together and say, ” What shall we do today?”. No they are given instruction by their superiors. The question is who gives their superiors the task that they must make life difficult for certain political campaigners? Dare I say it is The ESTABLISHMENT!

They must feel threatened for them to be taking this line of action.
Not really surprised as we have been seeing a number of suspicious actions over HCSA and cover ups just lately

That discredited bogus science set up to discredit victims of child sex abuse.

When I’ve reblogged Tom’s previous articles on this, as well as those by Johnny Void and the other Class War candidate, who suffered police intimidation, Jonathan Bigger, I pointed out how this shows the Tories really fear the have pushed people to the edge of rioting. It also shows the increasing insecurity in general of the political class, when even the tiniest, most trivial piece of social protest is immediately viewed as a subversive threat.
This isn’t the only incident of its type, either. One Tory parish councillor in Compton Dando in Somerset went berserk and demanded the police arrest the person responsible when someone put up a poster of him as Hitler in the local telephone box. Hartlepool council has been hunting for the blogger, ‘Mr Monkey’, for daring to criticise them online. And there have been several others.
This does need to be looked into and punished. Class War might only be a small party, but they should have the same rights as everyone else. And once they feel they can treat the little people with any way they feel with no consequences, they’ll start moving on to the bigger parties.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance, as someone once said.

But why should Bill be prosecuted for something the parliamentary candidate did?

Councils long ago made elections a deep secret from the public.
They do not allow bill stickers anywhere.
No banners on street furniture.
No leaflet handing out under anti litter laws.
There is a way to get past all that, as long as you don’t fall foul of any bye law about cycling through pedestrianised high streets.
Ad bcy.
See the youtube on http://www.anastasia-england.me.uk
You could make up your own bike trailer and poster from stuff around the house and from charity shops.
Members of the parties of the poor of the left not getting trade union campaign funds, might have to resort to this to get brand awareness and get past the council restrictions to democracy.

in the healing world and works of dr alice miller, dr dorathy rowe, dr bob johnson (see latest additions to his web site), oliver james, dr joanne moncrieff, and robert whitaker and of course my therapist of 1984>, no one can be/is accused of FMS…the worst thing a victim of child abuse can do is to seek justice via CJS…until that is, they’re fully healed, therefore a survivor and of course, if they choose to…@ that point they will need no one else to ‘help’ them as all emotional dependency on others will have evapourated, as the emotional injuries are now cured….
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_Miller_(psychologist) ‘Miller called electroconvulsive therapy “a campaign against the act of remembering.” In her book Abbruch der Schweigemauer (The Demolition of Silence), she also criticized psychotherapists’ advice to clients to forgive their abusive parents, arguing that this could only hinder recovery through remembering and feeling childhood pain. It was her contention that the majority of therapists fear this truth and that they work under the influence of interpretations culled from both Western and Oriental religions, which preach forgiveness by the once-mistreated child. She believed that forgiveness did not resolve hatred, but covered it in a dangerous way in the grown adult: displacement on scapegoats, as she discussed in her psycho-biographies of Adolf Hitler and Jürgen Bartsch, both of whom she described as having suffered severe parental abuse.[30] A common denominator in Miller’s writings is her explanation of why human beings prefer not to know about their own victimization during childhood: to avoid unbearable pain. She believed that the unconscious command of the individual, not to be aware of how he or she was treated in childhood, led to displacement: the irresistible drive to repeat abusive parenting in the next generation of children or direct unconsciously the unresolved trauma against others (war, terrorism, delinquency).,[31][32] or against him or herself (eating disorders, drug addiction, depression)’.
