(not satire – it’s the UKIP!)
When I first saw this video of UKIP’s agriculture spokesman Stuart Agnew MEP claiming that decarbonisation will deprive plants of carbon dioxide – I honestly thought it was a spoof.
But no – it’s the UKIP.
Hard to know where to start when it comes to explaining just how ignorant these comments are.
So better just let you see for yourself: (UPDATE: The UKIP have finally decided to delete the video, so here’s a copy)
For me, the most disturbing thing is that the video was posted by the UKIP itself.
Presumably they must be actually really very proud of their stupidity.

Would that affect the productivity of the spaghetti trees?
Would it cause losses of our treacle wells?
Would the natural mountain habitat of the haggis be affected?
It’s almost too easy to parody, whilst in itself is almost impossible to better.

The real Stupidity is believing the Lies of Politicians who want to introduce Carbon Taxation for everybody on the planet! These self same Politicians are the same ones who Govern our Countries now and claim that we can control the emission of C02 Worldwide. So hey MR CLEVER DICK ; why do they think that Carbon Credits are a good idea? And of course you don’t believe its anything to do with MONEY do you?
This is just another aspect of those same Control Freaks who want a Global Government,( which they pretend will be controlled by us but in reality it will be controlled by the Mega Corporations themselves who behind the scenes are pulling the strings of those self same Politicians which you think you control).
It does n’t take a genius to understand that these Big Businesses control Governments through the Money Supply does it?
Was nt it Nathan Mayer Rothschild who said.” I care not which Government is in Power as long as i control the Money Supply”.
That just tells it all don’t it Mr BOZO?
No it Don’t? Well ain’t that why they call you MR BOZO?
AND UKIP ARE DEAD RIGHT ! If you take away CO2 ; what are you going to replace it with? NITROGEN? OXYGEN OR WHAT?
Now Mr Bozo you will know of course what Percentage of CO2 there is in the Atmosphere don’t you? ( it changes at night and day of course too)
Well ; just to remind you; Its 3.8 times 10 to the power Minus 4 .( generally speaking )
The Most abundant GAS is NITROGEN at 0.78084 per cent
Then Comes OXYGEN at 0.20948 per cent.
then comes Water Vapour at 0.01 per cent
Then comes ARGON at 0.00984 per cent.
The Comes C02 AT THE ABOVE AMOUNT !!
WHICH IS 0.00038 PER CENT
NOW BEARING IN MIND THAT PLANTS DEPEND ON BOTH OXYGEN AND C02 YOU MUST THEN REALIZE THAT WHEN YOU LESSEN ONE YOU MUST INCREASE ANOTHER SO WHAT IS THAT EXTRA GAS GOING TO BE ?
WELL. WITH ALL THOSE PLANTS BEING ABLE TO BREATH A FULL BREATH OF OXYGEN AT NIGHT AND BREATH IN IN LESS CO2 IN THE DAY IT WILL UPSET THE EQUILIBRIUM OF THE PLANTS QUITE A BIT.
THE RESULT IS = DYING PLANTS= DYING HUMANS WHO NEED TO USE AND EAT THOSE PLANTS.( AND CONSUME THE OXYGEN )
ONE OTHER THING.: ONE VOLCANIC ERUPTION CAN GIVE OUT AS MUCH CARBON DIOXIDE AS THE WHOLE OF THE HUMANS ON THIS PLANET DO IN ONE YEAR

Using the energy of sunlight, plants use carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and water to produce carbohydrate plus oxygen. (Plant carbohydrate is called cellulose and it is how the plant grows.)
The formula: 6C02+6H20 —C6H1206 + 602
On this occasion UKIP is correct. Plants grow more abundantly in a carbon dioxide enriched atmosphere.

One of the commenters to this piece rightly points out that plants grow by metabolising the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Thus, plants grow better in a carbon dioxide-rich atmosphere. That still doesn’t make Agnew any less stupid for suggesting that the reduction of carbon emissions will kill off Europe’s plants. These are the people, who just weren’t paying attention in science class.

The carbon tax is the biggest con of its type. We have said for years they would tax the oxygen if they could. This is the same only in reverse. Wherever CO2 originates the balance is kept thereabouts the same by natures own mechanisms. Most excess in the atmosphere is absorbed by the water vapour in clouds and falls to earth has carbonic acid and reabsorbed in many different ways. God was the great designer and when we marvel at the wonders of his work we see with awe how exact a scientist He is as well.

I find two thoughts even more disturbing. One is that no-one felt able to rebut him, despite the crassness of his error, only referring vaguely to experts.
The other is that climate deniers’ understanding of economics is probably at pretty much the same level of incompetence.

@beastrabban: It’s correct that plants require CO2 to grow. That does not mean that simply increasing CO2 will make them grow better.
In most circumstances plant growth is limited by other factors, especially, in much of the world, availability of water. Nutrients (requiring fertilizer in commercial agriculture), daylight and temperature also come into it.

Gonville Bromhead maybe you should try some of your own advice before administering it to others. Or maybe you could tell us what the other 99% of air is made of, after listing (incorrectly) the compositions of just over 1% air, followed by what can only be described as a rant.
Air consists of around 0.035% CO2, but if you go back about 20 years, it was 0.0292%, so in the period of just 20 years. the increase has been around 80%, and this is alongside massive deforestation (carbon dioxide sinks). Go back further and the amount has almost tripled/quadrupled (depending on how far back you go).
CO2 absorbs energy from the infra red region. Most of the energy we get from the sun is in visible light, which warms the Earth during daytime. At night, the Earth cools back down, emitting it’s energy in infra red. This means increased CO2 has no noticeable effect on energy absorbed from the sun, but captures energy emitted by the Earth, meaning that the temperature is slowly increasing, and more CO2 would speed this process up. This is why Climate Change scientists agree that we need to be burning less fossil fuels (which pump CO2 into the atmosphere), it’s hardly their fault politicians interpret this in the “Carbon tax” idea (companies pay to burn fossil fuels), but as the cost of the fuel and the tax combined is still less than the cost of renewables due to chronic underfunding, they’ll continue to do so!
Just as an aside, in case you were not aware, the subsidies paid by OUR government alone to fossil fuel producers exceeds subsidies paid to renewable energy producers by a significant margin (not sure of the actual figures, but I recall seeing that it was around 4x the Green subsidy at the height of when we were paying Green tax on our energy bills!) These subsidies are why the fuel costs for business still remain cheaper than for Renewables, even with the Carbon tax. If they removed this subsidy and put the investment into Renewables instead, we wouldn’t need a Carbon tax – the cost of fossil fuels alone would be sufficient to encourage business to move towards Renewables.

o you remember the crucial vote to end Tory privatisation of the NHS we won back in November? You were one of the incredible 136,000 people who signed the petition that helped make it happen.
Well, since then, things have got ugly. Reeling from their defeat in the Commons, the Tories have come up with a new plan to stop our anti-privatisation bill: filibuster it.
Before the bill can be passed, it has to be scrutinised by MPs in the “Committee Stage”. But rather than discussing the bill, Tory MPs are deliberately wasting time so we can’t get any changes agreed — and that means the bill can’t go back for the final vote in the Commons.
Here are just some of the topics — completely unrelated to the NHS — that Tory MPs have been “debating” in the two days they’ve meant to have been talking about our NHS bill:
Asterix the Gaul
Affinity for Creme eggs
French sociologist Emile Durkheim
Tactics in the Napoleonic wars
The history of papal doctrine
Norse gods and their relationship to the Tory logo
Drinking habits of William Pitt the Younger
Medieval poet Geoffrey Chaucer
Bringing candles into the committee room
Why sleeping pills say “may cause drowsiness” on them…
…and popular ’90s soft drink “Sunny Delight”
It’s clear they’re going to pull every dirty trick in the book to stop us getting our bill passed before the election. So if we want to end the privatisation of the NHS, we’re going to have to do it ourselves, in government

UKIP’s Stuart Agnew looks a very lot like Humpty Dumpty, so he should avoid sitting on the tops of walls in a high March wind….
Apropos of that, did you hear about the UKIP MP who went into a restaurant in the East End of London and asked for buffalo wings..?? The waiter said to him: “I’m sorry, Sir, but everyone knows that buffalos can’t fly….”
Did you hear about the UKIP MP who went into a restaurant and asked for chicken drumsticks…?? The waiter told him: “I’m sorry Sir, but everyone knows that chickens can’t play the drums…. ”
Some UKIP MP’s are indeed very stupid… they should ideally be untethered and put out to pasture….
