(not satire – it’s the UKIP!)
In which we get to hear sage political advice from a UKIP spin-doctor…..
UKIP’s general election campaign launch in Scotland didn’t go exactly to plan yesterday.
First of all a video link to Nigel Farage – who seems to have wisely decided to spend his party’s Scottish campaign down in England safely out of the reach of Scottish voters – couldn’t take place due to technical difficulties.
And then one of the UKIP candidates said she didn’t know which constituency she was standing in.
“I don’t know where I’m standing, I think it could be Sutherland,” UKIP candidate Annie Murray happily admitted to the assembled media.
And finally, UKIP candidate Emily Santos – who will take on Alex Salmond in the high-profile Gordon constituency – gave a car-crash interview to the media.
When the tongue-tied candidate was completely unable to answer any questions, the panicking UKIP spin doctor accompanying her was heard to give the excellent advice: “Words – use your words.”
“I don’t know,” was Santos’ brilliant reply.
I just love the UKIP.

Tom Pride’s here provides proof that UKIP aren’t just a group of homophobic, racist bigots, they’re also massively inept as well. Somehow I don’t think the Kippers are going to be a major force in the country that produced Adam Smith and Keir Hardie. it would, however, have made a brilliant episode of Rab C. Nesbit.

“… Didn’t know which constituency she was standing in.” Sounds like the Tory party of old when candidates would stand, somewhere or other, in the ‘vain’ belief that they would ‘naturally’ be elected.

Is it just me, or did someone at UKIP watch “The 100 Days of UKIP” program, and conclude that the key to a UKIP victory would be to have a young, attractive female candidate, who looks a bit foreign (but not too foreign), and have them shepherded by a white male UKIP ‘handler’?

Do Ukip just go out onto the street and look for someone to become a member and then tell them they are a candidate?
You can tell that most of them are ex-Tory, they don’t know what the hell they are doing and they are lying each time they open their mouths.

“Sutherland”? Did she mean Sunderland? It’s obviously an easy mistake to make and it is ‘up-north’, so to speak, and not too far from the Scottish border.

R. Wood – no, Sutherland is part of Scotland. It’s the name for that area on the mainland just south of the Orkneys and Shetland. It was founded by the invading Vikings way back in the early middle ages, and is mentioned in the Orkneyinga Saga, the legends of the Viking jarls of the Orkneys.

Are we getting the politicians we deserve?
“I don’t know” may not be the right answer. Nor is “Yes” when asked “would you want to be Prime Minister?”. But both these answers are true, and I find it really annoying that any politician who says anything true is savaged and mocked by our press.
Meanwhile Politicians who tell us that their policies are helping people into employment, or paying down the deficit, when their policies are actually causing deaths from suicide and starvation are venerated as statesman.
Why are racists more objectionable than people whose contempt and indifference to the sufferings and hardships of other human beings is based on considerations other than race?
