(not satire – it’s the Telegraph!)
I’m afraid the woeful state of British journalism is being more than adequately illustrated in the lead-up to the general election.
For example, just today, the Daily Telegraph has an extraordinary story about how Boots boss Stefano Pessina thinks it would be a “catastrophe” if Ed Miliband wins the next election:
Boots boss: Ed Miliband would be a ‘catastrophe’ for Britain
Oh, come on now Telegraph.
Considering Pessina is a Monaco-resident, tax-dodging, billionaire, Tory-supporting friend of David Cameron – whose firm is benefiting from the present government’s privatisation of the NHS – that’s not very surprising now, is it?
Talk about journalists reporting Dog Bites Man.
Take a bow Telegraph hacks Tim Ross and Graham Ruddick.

Pingback: (Facepalm) Daily Telegraph: tax dodging Monaco Tory billionaire hates Labour | Alternative News Network
Given my personal experience of fighting libel cases with (Lord) Conrad Black, former owner of the ‘Telegraph’ newspapers, I don’t think that the ‘Daily Telegraph’ is a particularly good example of “the state of British journalism” (“woeful” or otherwise).

Stefano Pessina has spoken out in favour of reducing tax on business as well Osborne’s cuts. Demonstrating his favour for the coalition government, Pessina has said “I am convinced the Government in the UK is trying to do the right things and the fact they are reducing tax is going in the right direction. (HIS)
Unfortunately, the public opinion, the environment is not as favourable to businesses as the government is.”
Well he could stop customers of a different persuasion from using his high street stores but somehow i dont think he will….

As Tom Pride points out, it’s hardly surprising that a tax-dodging, multi-millionaire like Pessina hates Labour. Nevertheless, it does show alarm on the part of the Tory faithful, as New Labour with its ‘Tory-lite’ policies was successful in winning donors away from the Conservatives. The situation has moved the other way since then, with the multi-millionaire privatisers going back to either the Tories or UKIP. Nevertheless, this article shows that the fear is still there.

He benefits from privatisation of the NHS – that says it all. The more these greedy bast–ds attack Ed the more likely it is that I’ll vote for him. Methinks the Tory scum are afraid of Ed!
