(satire?)

The UK Government has controversially ordered all state buildings to fly double standards at half mast across the country following the death of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

Ministers on Friday declared – at the request of Buckingham Palace – that “all standards be lowered from 8am today until 8pm this evening” on its own institutions, despite concerns by constitutional experts that standards across the country are already so low they are in danger of disappearing altogether.

Critics have also criticised the decision to fly double standards at half mast, saying considering the UK’s history of appeasement of the Saudi’s appalling human rights record, British double standards should probably be flown at full mast instead.

A UK Government spokesman, however, defended the decision:

It is normal practice for the UK government to fly double standards at half mast on the death of undemocratic heads of state as a mark of respect to the demise of satire.
