(not satire – it’s the Tories!)
If you’re one of the millions of British families struggling to make ends meet on low wages or trying to find a job – cheer up!
You might be fed up to the point of desperation – but government ministers reckon what you’re actually experiencing is an economic boom!
Here’s a tweet today from Tory Employment Minister, Esther McVey:
There’s only one thing to say to that.
Out. Of. Touch.

Well I suppose for those with money and those with well paid jobs, it probably IS a boom in the economy, but that has no effect on those struggling, we wouldn’t even notice!

Whopee! How sensible of Tory ministers to remind us how wonderful everything is. In fact I have so much money that I spend all day rolling about in it.

Mike over at Vox Political and a number of other bloggers have critiqued these kind of figures before. There is only an employment boom, because most of the jobs created are either part-time, zero-hours or extremely low paid. So even if you’ve got a job, you’re still very much in poverty. But the figures themselves are very suspect, not least because the Tories have been fiddling the unemployment figures for years so that they don’t represent the true number of people without jobs. They don’t count those who have been sanctioned, or those on particular kinds of benefits. So McVey is spouting rubbish, which is what she has been doing throughout her entire political career.

Yup – unemployment has apparently fallen in England, but risen in Scotland – definitely a boom (in people put into workfare, that is).

Bring the unions back and get this zero hours crap abolished one way or another, even a general strike would kick the owners arses.

Where is the general strike called by trade unions for the poorest workers who will be left on low wages for life, with benefit all gone, and a flat rate pension of
£55 per week.
Yep that is the forecasts people have gained for retiring age in 2016 for men and women.
When the current £113.10 per week state pension is called the lowest pension of all rich nations bar poor Mexico.
State pension payout is payable if keep in work or not.

The truth of the matter is that when people earn very low wages they either don’t pay any tax or very little which has a negative effect on the economy. Furthermore, the chances are that they are also claiming benefits to help them manage plus they have no spare cash to spend which once again would help the economy. This nasty government is either lying about the economy or complete fools to ignore what is going on at the bottom of the pile.

More lies today – the crime figures have fallen. The truth is that’s because the police forces have cut back so much now that they either don’t attend ‘minor’ crimes or they don’t record them.
