Iain Duncan Smith yesterday flagged up the possibility of refusing child benefit to women who have more than two children.
But women who are pregnant with their first child are already being refused unemployment benefit.
An unemployed woman has lost her unemployment benefit after she was put on light duties at a workfare placement in B&Q when she informed them she was 23 weeks pregnant.

This is not the first time – or the last time – that unemployed women have been targeted by the DWP for being pregnant.
In fact, this is not the first time in our history we’ve seen this kind of treatment of women in poverty who have the audacity to get pregnant ………..

It’s fucking disgraceful, people ought to be helped when in need, not ridiculed! What the fuck is going on in the minds of these psychopathic, greedy, bastards in power? IDS claims for UNDERPANTS, whilst PREGNANT woman loses benefits…and all who will shout contraceptives, shout it at the royal fucking family, the most fucked-up, scrounging, tax-avoiding, inbred family in Briton, paid for by you!

This shows the misogynist, anti-feminist character of this government. There’s a section of the Conservative party that would, like the Kippers, like to see the return of the traditional British family, where the man is the breadwinner, who goes out to work, while women stay home to bring up the children. It strongly seems to me that whoever dreamed this up probably considers that they’re strengthening the family bond by forcing unemployed women to be dependent on their relatives, either their parents, or the father of their children.
Underlying this attitude is also that of the very hard-hearted employer, who sees women, and particularly pregnant women, not as a valuable part of the workforce, but as an extra expense because of maternity leave, and the special arrangements that have to be made to allow women to pursue both a career and bring up their children. In America there was a ghastly case where one firm forced all its women workers to be sterilised. I think this was partly because of the hazardous nature of the job. It involved toxic materials or radioactivity that could lead to birth defects. Either way, the ladies sued and were duly awarded compensation for this grotesque piece of sex discrimination. Someone in the Tory party, however, obviously saw it and thought it was a good idea.

What the hell is going on at this Jobcentre? This is the same Jobcentre that sanctioned a vulnerable homeless man who fell asleep on the streets and never woke up. The manager and staff involved should be presecuted.

The whole set-up in the Jobcentres is geared to putting the “client” in their place, making them feel inferior and, in my experience, the “officers” take pleasure in acting the role of strict headteacher (“stand there”, “don’t cross the line”, “don’t answer back” etc) doling out punishment at any opportunity. Many of these “officers” are not highly trained professionals (I have known a few personally) and quite obviously relish their power. They are not there to help us, their mission seems to be to do whatever they can to sanction, disallow a claim or just make our lives very difficult.
I was once sanctioned and money stopped, because I “missed an appointment”. I had an appointment at the jobcentre for 1pm on a monday. On the Saturday before I received a letter confirming the appointment. However, as I was about to leave home I noticed that the time given in the letter was 11am. Obviously I assumed an error had been made somewhere so telephoned to explain but was told that the 11am appointment was an extra one they had made at short notice. When I pointed out that this was confusing the chap replied that it was a deliberate ploy to “catch people out” and something they did regularly!
Needless to say, I was too late for the first appointment. This resulted in loss of 2 weeks benefit, no discussion and when I, naturally, became upset and protested, I was forcibly removed by security guards.
I am a 60 year old woman by the way.

Sorry to hear you have been through this groovmistress, I despair when I hear about the way these jobsworths treat people, they must have bricks where their hearts should be. Had the government not stolen our pensions by putting them out of reach by another 6 years, you would not have had this problem. I despise this government and everything they stand for.

Can we get SPUC and their mates to lay off abortion clinics and have a go at Ashton Jobcentre? I mean if you think unborn children have a right to life, you presumably think they have a right to nutrition.
Being serious, the government is screwing with the health of people who have yet to be born in order to save the taxpayer less than £60 a week. Does anyone think that this makes sense in economic terms? Let alone that it can possibly be right.
