(not satire – it’s the BBC!)
I’ve written before about how the BBC seems to be encouraging UKIP activists to pretend to be ordinary members of the audience on Question Time.
Well, it now seems that a member of last night’s BBC QT audience – the one who accused Russell Brand of being all mouth and told him to stand as an MP – is the brother of Farnborough-born UKIP MEP James Carver:
Man who clashed with Russell Brand on BBC Question Time is UKIP MEP’s brother.
Personally, I don’t think the BBC is allowing planting of activists to favour UKIP politically. I think they’re doing it because they think it creates entertaining television.
More proof that BBC Question Time is all part of a policy of Bread and Circuses while making the plebs think we have a voice.
We don’t.

Well reported Tom…the BBC is playing a ridiculous game of manipulation and we are supposed to believe it’s neutral….all they want is more viewing figures…

I have long since stopped watching question time – politicians are not the people to answer the questions, because they never answer difficult questions. The panel should consist of ordinary people who are capable and equipped with the ability to ignore what the next day’s tabloids might say – Oh and anything chaired by an ex Bullington (Eton) Club boy should be avoided by all working class people like the plague

This chimes with my experience at a Points West recording programme about Somerset floods. Told at the beginning that you can voice whatever your experience/opinion might be. But when I pointed out that emergency plan revision and river maintenance stopped in 2001, I was blocked – and from the interviewer’s behaviour, it seemed the block came from the producer’s voice in his earpiece. Didn’t want to hear criticism of 10 years of Government inaction leading to costly dredging operation this summer.
btw i know about the plans because I wrote one for Ilchester in 2000 and checked the (lack of) update in Somerset’s Archives – and there was no ref to dust-laden plans in the transmission.
Further back, I had a similar experience making a tape/slide programme. Producer wanted visual colour difference between 2 solutions redering use of photometer to measure it redundant. Devalued the whole exercise.
Why does TV news/science/current affairs have to be reduced to entertainment? We’ve got more than enough already. Maybe they (BBC) have too many non-science qualifications?
