(not satire – it’s the Cameron government!)
In 2011, the Cameron government decided that …….
- Firefighters will only get their full pensions at 60 instead of 55.
- All firefighters of any age will undergo regular fitness tests.
- Firefighters will be made redundant if they fail the fitness tests.
- The government’s own report found that the effects of ageing will prevent 66 per cent of firefighters over 55 from meeting the fitness levels required for the job.
- Firefighters who lose their jobs will not be eligible for their full pension they have paid into.
60 is too old to be fighting fires. The government knows that. This is simply a way to make huge numbers of firefighters redundant and deny them their pensions.
And while the public is not aware of it – the government will get away with it.

Excellent article Tom.
The Labour party have tabled Early Day Motion 454 regarding the Coalition governments attack on firefighters Pension.
You can see which MP’s have signed it here http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2014-15/454
To date 260 MP’s have signed. However, the target to have it debated in the House of Commons is 326 by the 11th December.
I urge everyone who reads this to see if their MP has signed. If they haven’t then please lobby them to do so before the 11th December.

This government is without shame. As my mates hubby said “would you really want some doddery old fart rescuing you from a burning building?” Wouldn’t it be nice if CaMORONs’ gaff went up in flames and the firefighters said… “sorry but my knees and my lungs are fu*ked so can’t help you!”

What is this? Brazen govt policy to kill off the infirm and elderly? Let’s see, the last people in Europe who employed this policy we went to war against. – for our survival.

Looking at a couple of earlier comments I think one or two people may not have realised the full implications. They will not be rescued by “dodery old farts” – an offensive term in itself but that is BTW – as those deemed unfit will be made redundant with loss of pension rights.

There will be a debate and vote in the House of Commons on Monday 15th December. Please urge your MP to turn up and vote.
There are still over 20 Labour MP’s who have yet to sign the EDM454!
