So let us not wallow in the valley of despair, my friends.
Even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.
I have a dream that our children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour or the mode of their transport but by the content of their character.
I have a dream that one day – even in the UK, with its vicious prejudice, with its leaders having their lips dripping with the words of “immigrant” and “scrounger” – every type of transport shall be exalted, and every car and bus and van and bicycle of every colour shall be treated equally and even the pedestrians shall be blessed with the glory of the Lord.
I have a dream that one day the sons and daughters of former black cab owners and the sons and daughters of former white van owners will be able to sit down together with the sons and daughters of light blue Toyota Corolla owners at the table of brotherhood
I have a dream!
That this will be the day when all of God’s children, black cab men and white van men, pedestrians and drivers, bus passengers and Nordic walkers, cyclists and Vauxhall Cavalier owners will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:
Free at last! Free at last!
Thank God Almighty, we are free at last to make a journey in whatever way we want without some patronising out-of-touch politician looking down their nose and sneering at us like we’re a piece of shit.
With apologies to Martin Luther King.
