Imagine you wanted to complain to the brand new press regulation body about an article a tabloid newspaper like – say – the Daily Mail has published.
You’d need to send your complaint to the new chair of the Editors’ Code of Practice at the newly set up Independent Press Standards Organisation.
Let’s just check who that might be.
Oh yes, here we are.
That would be a certain Paul Dacre.
Who also happens to be the editor of the Daily Mail.
Do these people think we’re thick? Or what?

Naturally I shall be complaining in the strongest terms, the next time the daily mail runs some such dubious editorial bunkum or propaganda.

The paper tells as many lies as Labour itself – and to think its editor is chair of the Editors’ Code of Practice! Obviously doesn’t know the meaning of the word ‘independent’.

2 m people read The Mail, so they have pretty strong evidence that quite a few people are thick. As far as everyone else is concerned, they don’t think we’re thick, they don’t think about us at all because there’s nothing we can do

The older I get the more confused I am.
To appoint Mr Dacre as Chairman of IPSO is akin to giving the inmates the keys to the Asylum.
What the hell is happening to accountability now, I just dont get these decisions anymore

So the tabloids will investigate themselves, the ‘quality’ papers will investigate themselves. Exactly as the police, the government, the civil service, the security services, the political parties, etc. etc. do.

They do have standards based on their own morality and social class – which is why they never see anything wrong with what they do and say. It’s the rest of the population that should be aghast but hey, most people in this country are cynical and selfish, which is how they get away with it. The struggles of a century ago for the wellbeing of the population have disappeared down the pan. Local election in a 10,000 population only 700 turned out – many didn’t know there was anelection and most don’t care!
