A repentant Mike Read has apologised to racists across the country for ‘unintentionally causing offence’ by linking them to his appallingly dire Calypso song.
The ex-Radio 1 DJ has asked for the song to be withdrawn from sale following hundreds of complaints from racists that the astoundingly atrocious ditty he sang in praise of Nigel Farage and UKIP was a load of shite.
One prominent racist explained the reason for the outrage:
“For centuries racism has been associated with music such as the sinister nationalism of Wagner or the dark primordial decadence of Strauss. And in more recent times, fascism and extreme intolerance towards our fellow man has been admirably represented by the energetic hatred and grinding violence of skinhead bands like Screwdriver.
But now today – thanks to Mike Read – the sound of far-right bigotry has been reduced to a crap ageing 1980s former radio 1 DJ in a pair of shite sunglasses singing a load of embarrassing bollocks in a rubbish Caribbean accent.”
The controversy comes just days after the Home Secretary Theresa May – in a bid to outflank UKIP – promised tough new laws to deport Justin Bieber and other foreign pop stars who commit serious crimes against music.

I have the misfortune to remember Mike Read on Saturday Superstore (Search fo a MIdland/Natwest/TSB employee(, whipping out his guitar at the drop of a…and playing nondescript notes (music would be stretching it – he got Relax by FGTH banned, too). Even that offence against music beats this UKIP apologist, blatantly racialist (he is stuck in the 70s after all) tripe.

So as I understand it someone on the music of black origin awards, racist by design, as it does not allow music of white or yellow or red or coloured origin, is calling someone racist. It is time that Black people realised that they are being racist by only thinking white people are racist.

I don’t pretend to speak for all black people, as no-one could ever have that privilege, but what I can say is that, not for one second do I think that only white people have the capacity to be racist. The suggestion that one would think otherwise, based on what evidence I know not, but filled with preconception, beggars belief. Like homophobia, agesism, and sexism, racism is the preserve of no-one group. Prejudice is the potential preserve of all, but it, surely, is down to forward-thinking people of every colour, creed, race, religion, orientation, et al to combat bigotry in every community.

I think racism (if not conditioned by religion or culture) is a lot to do with a deep dissatisfaction inside oneself (anger coupled with frustration) and unfortunately there is plenty of anger about. Most intelligent youth when asked what it means to be British reply ‘What do you mean by British?’ Unfortunately, the human has a tendancy to be stuck in some byegone era (nostalgia is very seductive 🙂 ) and moving on frightens them……Besides we can feel justified in our anger because it fuels a self importance. A lot of work to be done.

How sad that people have lost their sense of humour! and the song- it’s not racist at all- it’s just against open door policy in the Euro – does that mean also anyone including Ali G is a racist for taking on accents etc.?

It’s a nonsense to say the song is racist – do we now have to ban anybody that imitates any accent in jokes etc.I remember Benny Hill and Dave Allen doing the most incredibly funny sketches with many accents eg German, Italian, and our own West Country accent – Devonian etc. There is way too much sensitivity over this – it’s just ridiculous to make such a big issue of it. I find it enormously funny when our dialect is used and it never.occurs to me to be insulted.

Yep, laura lian. I don’t see it as racist, just embarrassingly toe-curlingly naff. [Though I admit not in the same league as this – pick it up at 1 minute into the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOx8q3eGq3g ] 🙂

To be honest, I couldn’t bear to watch it all again either, Pennie. I still have post-traumatic flashbacks of it all these decades later. 😀 [“Geez, it was only a bit of fun – I should get a life really” 🙂 ]
