When government ministers or members of the establishment talk about free speech, they don’t mean free speech for plebs like you and me.
As an illustration of this, Justice Secretary Chris Grayling has just announced 2 year jail sentences for anyone found to have been dishing out abuse on social media.
But the law will not apply to tabloid newspapers, who dish out abuse on a regular basis – sometimes with tragic consequences.
If the government thinks dishing out abuse online should result in jail, fair enough. But the laws must also apply to newspaper barons too.
What we are seeing now is a concerted effort by the establishment to shut down the free speech of plebs like you and me – with threats of jail – while at the same time allowing tabloid newspaper owners to abuse anyone they want at will.
And as if to rub it in our faces – Grayling announced the new attacks on our freedom of speech in an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail.

Mens Rea, actus reus (roughly translated – guilty mind, guilty act) the “intent” has to be proved beyond reasonable doubt (criminal) as opposed to on the balance of probability (civil) …. good luck with that!

This is something to be seen on two levels–I myself find internet trolls revolting–sending rape threats and other such stuff is something no decent human race wants–I have no sympathy myself with these vile internet trolls–BUT ON THE OTHER HAND A KNOWN CRIMINAL KILLER QUEEN STATE KNOWN TO CRIMINOLOGY–BERNERS-LEE–MORGAN–AND OTHERS–WOULD TRY TO TURN THIS INTO CENSORSHIP OF TRUTH–for example I myself tweet criminal CIA and others over evidence of Diana’s murder and other issues–anybody can see my tweets–I stand by what I say and make no attempt to disguise my identity–same with website etc.–all evidence based. SO NO TO VILE INTERNET TROLLS–YES TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH TO DEFEND WORLD FROM KILLER QUEEN’S KNOWN CRIMINAL STATE EMPIRE.

Many (but by no means all) of the trolls, that we encounter on the internet are Government employees.
This is clearly nothing more than a Government, problem, reaction, solution exercise.
Government create a problem, the sheeple react in horror, then the Government provides a solution, costing no more than another large slice of our freedoms.
To our never elected rulers, it is nothing short of intolerable that plebs should have opinions, let alone freely disseminate facts! Outrageous! they cry, how can we carry out illegal wars, ignore human rights and persecute the disabled, the poor and the weak, if the plebs can tell everyone about it?
So they seek to use their favourite weapon to shut down dissent, FEAR! Fear of a two year prison sentence for exposing truth and thereby causing offence to our criminal, corrupt, treasonous never elected rulers.
This law is not about protecting innocents threatened by sick twisted people on the internet, it is about shutting down the awakened prior to the next rigged election.
I must go now as there is a SWAT team and a Black Helicopter outside my window!
It could be something to do with me posting a picture of IDS with a pair of underpants on his head on the internet!

I agree with everything still oaks said: it makes me wonder why they are making trolling illegal, does anyone for one moment think the govt care one iota what plebs are called online? It’s to cover up the antics of the likes of Maria Miller, Lord Freud et al and “trolling” will be nothing more than criticising MPs and mega rich.

Chris – you need to read the article again. In your rush to condemn, you have completely misunderstood it. Nowhere did I say that trolling should or should not be made illegal. That’s a matter of opinion. But if trolling is illegal for the public – as it now is – why does the government not apply it to tabloid newspapers?
Nowhere does the law mention murder or rape. It only mentions online abuse. But who is to define online abuse? Personally, I think the tabloids abuse people regularly. But when was the last time you saw a tabloid newspaper hack go to prison for abusing someone?
In fact, I am as against real online abuse as much as anyone. I have myself been subjected to threats of violence and death (by a tabloid journalist not all that coincidentally):

But the point of the article is not about the ins and outs of what should or should not be banned. The point is that the rules – whatever you think they should be – should apply to all equally. At the moment, they don’t.

i understand your point–but needs to be seen on wider level–BASTIAT warned us all about corrupt law long time ago–evidence on that spread–it allows such as Diana murder by killer Queen State brought to light by respected MORGAN and others to flourish–and countless other abuses too–the so called rule of law a criminal wasteland.

The government has and does use trolling on a regular basis to undermine legitimate online protest. I have been a victim of it myself; their technique is to initially befriend you, agree with you then to turn on you- a psychological technique designed to put you off guard.
While no form of bullying or threatening is acceptable, we have to be very careful where the line is drawn. There is a very fine line between repression and freedom, because a law that sets you free may represses me, and a law that sets me free may repress you.

‘Sides ff….I like prison visits…..have not bin to one in years …What I do so remember are the ‘sounds’……the locks, the metal doors banging ,the rustle of keys ,the sounds of the footsteps while waiting in the cells…I cld go on. 😦

thanks for pointing out spelling error–as regards bogs a conservationist like myself tries to point out their fascinating characteristics–overcoming their negative stereotypes–I would recommend you learn about Britain’s globally important FLOW COUNTRY boglands. Boglands need their friends–try listening to wonderful golden plover in the mist–bog pools full of beautiful bogbean–Scottish wildcat nearby in my day out there–now much rarer–dragonflies–sundews–black throated divers–golden eagles overhead–so much else.

As I have experienced it myself……curious that you mention beheading.I could not behead anyone…..I am far too lenient. Or maybe I would not take that responsibility?

When I as living on a mountain top in Spain, a few years ago now…..the wild cat was a pain in the ass…why? He wanted to mate with my cat. I saw him once up a tree. By god he was fearless and fast..one siting in a year and a half .I heard him though, often. We seem to have lost our need for raw nature.
