Now he’s left the Tories and joined UKIP, Mark Reckless must be relieved that he can now tell the truth about George Osborne’s (mis)handling of the economy.
In his speech to the UKIP conference, Reckless highlighted the failure of Osborne’s austerity measures:
“We will see in this parliament in just 5 years a Conservative-led government adding more to our national debt than Labour in 13 years.”
In other words, Osborne, Cameron and Clegg have cut the NHS, schools, sickness benefit, support for the seriously sick and disabled, support for the young, policing, armed forces, house building, legal aid, etc etc etc for absolutely no economic benefit at all.

I daren’t – I’d swear, insult, slander & be arrested! So I’ll keep to generalities.
I’m so disappointed in our so-called democracy; from all parties and process.
Misinformation after misinformation.
Do you see any REAL GUTSY wo/men in politics? (Don’t inc Farage in this; he’s not real!)
Look around. Any good business wo/men there? Why not? They are mostly (a few notable exceptions) spongers and “in it for themselves or/& their mates”.
Regardless of political views, am I the only one to be embarrassed by our own “so called political reps” when I watch Barrack speak? Impressive. Or even good old Angela; don’t understand a word she says – but “she means it” LOL
The more I “understand” our political system the more I believe it needs a radical overhaul; starting with “accountability, transparency and independent oversight” of everything; including the police, judiciary and all religious and public institutions. [“Inter-relationship” with gov’t is far too cosy at the moment].
The system (“establishment”) is broken and corrupt to its core. .
EG: The way gov’t dealt with Snowden’s revelations and presently with the CSAEnquiry + others – Hillsborough .. The way Lab & Con have mismanaged the NHS – where are we being informed? (If we have cash flow difficulties, then let’s go for the French model and BE HONEST ABOUT IT AND EXPLAIN WHY or better still have an independent review and look at options and have a referendum). I hate being patronised.
Have you noticed K Vaz’s frustration on the HOC? But he seems powerless to actually DO anything! Just bring it to the attention of the gov’t – as if they didn’t already know!
Too tired to explore the monarchy – the Queen has admirably fulfilled her contractual obligations – Respect. But I would suggest that the monarchy needs to be down-sized and it’s constitutional role reduced- eliminated!
A written constitution is also needed.
As for the media – BBC news impartiality? too tired …. 🙂

Austerity is always about directing more of the wealth of the nation into the hands of a small, self appointed “elite”.
The truth is simple, the welfare state that is now so decried by the grasping simpletons on the right, was in fact a conservative measure in an attempt to hold off the growing socialism at home, and communism abroad. In reality it didn’t come close to paying the restitution owed to a large percentage of the population for the actions of the state over hundreds of years, those actions of enclosure, and awarding property rights to more self appointed “elites”, made sure English people were born landless, and were denied their natural right of self sufficiency by state force. This was the biggest, and most tyrannical government interference in the economy this nation has known, and turned the English people into serfs, who were expected to work for their masters or be punished.
So in my opinion, austerity, coupled with privatisation, is nothing more than a modern day enclosure act. The self appointed “elites” now feel they are entitled to be paid tribute for every public service. This is where the something for nothing culture has always resided in this country, Not young single mothers, not the unemployed, or the sick and disabled. It’s those same self appointed “elites”, and their lackeys in the middleclass, their every action is born out of feeling entitled.
It was never about the numbers, they don’t care about that. It was about attempting to finish of their regressive ideology, and drag the nation back to their ideal fantasy world which blighted this country for centuries. What they don’t seem to have taken into account is the fact that a return to those days, will also see a return of the arguments that pushed them to the brink in the first place, and forced the creation of the welfare state as a bulwark, not as the path to socialism that they now try to claim.
In conclusion, I think they’re a bit fucking thick.

If it hadn’t been for the last useless Labour Government – we would not have had such a huge deficit to start with. Remember when they took over from the Conservatives the coffers were in a healthy state but after thirteen years (yes 13 years!) of the incapable Labour Party left the whole Country high and dry – and there was NOTHING left in the coffers.

James, the ‘Thick’ people like you who believe that others, such as the middle-class working population are deemed to be taxed to the hilt to pay for unmarried mothers – let those who make their children keep and maintain them or get their parents to pay for their grandchildren – get the unemployed people either back to paid work or cleaning the streets to earn their unemployment benefits – as they do in the USA! Yes, help every genuinely disabled person in this Country but get those who cheat the system off their fat backsides because I have worked all my life and am sick of seeing grossly overweight people in invalid chairs – people who are too fat to work are not poor – they just spend all their money on food and no exercise. Get real!

JoeyM, you’ve proved my point with your post. People do not belong to either a public, or private entity. Money is law, it is not some mythical element that either the rich, or middleclass bring into the world through work. It is a state law, and as far as I’m aware we can’t run out of laws. The reason for taxation for a country that uses fiat currency isn’t to fund anything, it’s simply to give value to the currency, and regulate inflation.
Now if you want to get rid of the welfare state, fine, start a political party that will abolish all private property, and people can go back to self suffiency. If not, then the people who are refused access to land to live a self sufficient life must be continually compensated for that loss. People do not belong to you, they are not brought into this world to work for your profit,

Hello, is that Mr Smith? It sounds like Mr Smith. You are assuming that bad luck will never happen to you. That the split second it takes to turn you from a “hardworking, productive member of society” into “benefit scrounging scum” will never, ever hit you or yours. That accident that leaves you permanently injured and unable to work; that unexpected diagnosis of a degenerative illness; the redundancy out of the blue and downturn in your industry; the company employing you going bust owing you pay & unable to pay any redundancy; all of these happen every day to people like you (and people like me) and there’s nothing you can do to prevent them… it is not the fault of the person affected. The sort of things you’ve been saying, I hear a lot from the blinkered and uninfomed (or the “don’t-want-to-be-informed”):
1. they’ve all got flat screen TVs etc – it’s been pretty hard to find any other kind in the last 5+ years and almost all of them will have been gifts, hand-me-downs or purchased while employed – you’ve never considered that?
2. Grossly overweight people in invalid chairs – guess what, when you are so disabled that you need a wheelchair to get around, exercising to keep weight down is a pipedream; and very many illnessess (and the medications to treat them) have weight gain as a side effect) – I’m also pretty sure they don’t “spend all their money on food” because I know many who are suffering from malnutrition because they have bills to pay to keep a roof over their heads before they consider buying food with what’s left – do you know how much a disabled person can claim or how much they have to spend on things you would never think of needing?
3. So, you want unemployed people to “clean the streets” for the dole? And the employed treet cleaner who was being paid minimum wage to do the job? He’s now unemployed? And cleaning the streets for 1/5 his previous wage? Really?
4. Scamming disabled people get a free car! No. Where to start… the recognised fraud rate for disability benefits is less than 1% of claims. So, 99% not scamming. The “free” car… One of the benefits that a disabled person can claim has a variable component to help with mobility (difficulty getting out and about) so that a disabled person isn’t restricted to their home etc. If a person gets the highest rate – one factor is inability to walk more than 50 metres even with sticks/crutches – they can use all or part of that allowance to rent a car OR a mobility scooter under the Motability scheme. Not all do, some might use the allowance towards taxi fares etc instead.
I’m one of those “middle class” people. At one point I was a working single woman (earning a good wage and enjoying life), then I was an unemployed single woman (living on toast and weetabix & “sofa surfing” for some of the time & getting the dole), then a working mother with a working partner, then I was a working single mother (sometimes full-time, sometimes part-time – with benefits topping me up when I needed them), then I was a stay at home mother with a working partner, then a working mother with a working partner, then I got a very unexpected, incurable, illness and have been unable to work since. My husband supports me 100% as his income is *just* too high for us to claim anything at all – and I am so glad that I don’t have to subject myself to the degradation and torture that is the current DWP claims system. If I were still working, I would be happy to pay the tax I’d be levied as long as it was doing the job it is supposed to. We pay taxes to support the infrastructure of our society and to make sure that we do not have people dying on the streets for lack of food & shelter in this extremely wealthy country.

Last week The Times revealed (on a deeply inside page) that George had ‘borrowed’ around £123M that had been kept under wraps. Today I see he has offered about £150M to reduce the 55% tax on funds of pensioners who die before their pensions run out. All in the way of a bribe for the election, of course, and guaranteed to increase the national Debt and hence the need for more CUTS for us to “rescue” the economy.
Seems to me they intend to hammer us if they win or the next Gov if they lose. If only we could raise the game to the level of plaguing ALL their houses – but hatred of “the other Party” is too entrenched.. What a pity Salmond lost!

You misunderstand me – I don’t hate the vulnerable, I want the best for them, including dignity and good health. That is why I’m a socialist, unlike most people on this site. Almost certainly one day both you and I will be disabled and vulnerable in some way too. However, what you make of your health or ill-health is largely up to you, irrespective of what help the current political party gives you……
