(satire?)
Thinking before voting in a UK election – as suggested by the Queen yesterday – would be unconstitutional, experts have agreed.
The Queen reportedly made the shocking suggestion – in reference to Thursday’s referendum on Scottish independence – after attending a Sunday morning church service at Crathie Kirk near her Balmoral estate.
However, constitutional experts unanimously agree that the idea of British people thinking before they voted would go against centuries of constitutional tradition.
One explained:
“The UK has a long and proud tradition of not thinking about anything at all when it comes to voting. In fact not thinking before voting is one of the cornerstones of what has made Great Britain the country it is today and a massive change like that would be unprecedented. Such radical action would lead to all kinds of unforeseen problems and could tear apart the very fabric of British society.”
The controversy comes just weeks after the Home secretary Theresa May announced government plans to make Critical Thinking a class C drug.

I strongly disagree! The British tradition is to not vote at all unless the outcome is a foregone conclusion. These nasty Scottish people with their 97% registration and >80% turnout is a disgusting corruption of true UK democracy.

yes..it’s a re hash of what sg and people already have.
it’s an attempted fraud, a con, a bucket of steam in a desert…it would break purdah if it offered anything new…and if it did offer anything new ukip and r.uk would be jumping all over it…

In fact they could promise something new if they wanted to, because the purdah rules apply only to the government, not to the different parties…… but whether their promises would be believed is another matter!

Part 4 sections 1-4 of the Scottish Referendum Act 2013 stipulates that campaigners are not allowed to release new documentation to the public within 28 days of the referendum date except in response to a direct enquiry.
As no such information has been sought this meeting with better together and subsequent advice that will apparently be published is in contrevention of said act.
As there is less than 10 days left of the referendum campaign, we believe that it is the commissions responsibility to investigate the matter under law and if necessary advise better together to cease and desist or risk allowing the rules of the referendum to be breached.

I’m afraid that petition got things a bit wrong. The Scottish Independence Referendum Act 2013 is an act of Scottish Parliament, not the UK Parliament. The relevant document is the Edinburgh Agreement, as we discussed before – (http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/0040/00404789.pdf)

P.S. Perhaps the only clear breach of the rules was the promise made by George Osborne a week or more ago, because he was clearly acting in his capacity as a UK Government Minister. Cameron, Clegg (and of course Miliband) can always say that they are acting only as the leaders of their parties, not as part of the UK Government.

Nevertheless, if “Part 4 sections 1-4 of the Scottish Referendum Act 2013 stipulates that campaigners are not allowed to release new documentation to the public within 28 days of the referendum date” is part of Scottish Law, does “The VOW” still not amount to a breach of such law and deserve to be inverstigated?

which means that they have no authority to offer anything (not that anything has been offered in the “pledge” (the polishing of crap), of course)…their “offer” will kick in when we are powerless and because we are…then ukip et al step in and convince others that scots are getting something for nothing and exploit this so we up with a ukip pact…how wonderful…if the retain power over capital they retain power over us….power devolved is power retained 2 points the lords removed devolved powers overnight so they could exploit fracking..willie rennie

Correct. Their ‘promises’ are meaningless because none of them can guarantee to get the legislation through the Commons and Lords…… and they probably won’t even get as far as drawing up the legislation, because they all have different ideas about which new powers Scotland should be allowed to have.
