Former Prime Minister Tony Blair has urged the UK government to consider military action against Scotland in the event of a vote for independence.
Mr Blair, who was prime minister between 1997 and 2007, broke his silence in the debate over Scottish independence to urge air strikes – including the use of the Trident independent nuclear deterrent – against Scottish strategic targets in the event of a ‘Yes’ victory next Thursday.
Interviewed in Kiev, Mr Blair said on Saturday that he hoped Scots would vote against independence, but warned that if Scotland voted to break up the United Kingdom then military intervention would be inevitable:
“Obviously I hope that Scotland votes to stay part of the United Kingdom. But Scotland should prepare itself for a full-scale invasion by ground forces if it doesn’t.”
Mr Blair’s comments came just weeks after the former PM called for NATO leaders to agree a joint campaign of targeted bombings and drone attacks against badgers in support of the UK government’s campaign to control the spread of TB in the British countryside.

This is satire but yes, the threat to “Bomb Scotland’s airports” has already been made by an ermine robed idiot. I don’t expect it to happen but what DOES worry me is that he felt it acceptable to say this and worse, was not criticised for doing so. In the independence referendum satire is nowhere near as ridiculous as the reality!

Hmm… Seems as if the Brits have invaded Scotland once or twice before. So it’s a tradition, and we know how they revere tradition. Scrap those plans to visit the Hebrides this fall.

Seems like democratic votes count for nothing if they do not please the vested interests! We’ll see what happens to Scotland. Maybe rather than splitting away from England they should come to a mutual agreement about a revised tax system. Isn’t the oil revenue all that it is about? /would the UK be prepared to revise the tax system?

Tom – I think there is no satire in this. Blair doesn’t give a shit about the Scottish referendum either way, because he has no personal financial or reputational investment in the outcome.

alice moore: What exactly do you then consider an ‘invasion’? — Don’t you think that air ‘invasion’ by enemy Luftwaffe aircraft counts as an invasion?? — During WW2, Peterhead was bombed 28 times, Aberdeen suffered 24 raids, Fraserburgh 23 raids, Edinburgh 18 raids, Montrose 15 air raids, Glasgow 11 raids, and there was a major air battle attack on Scapa Flow naval anchorage in Orkney…. In total there more than 500 German air raids on Scotland, 2,500 Scots died and 8000 were injured: So much for Hitler being in cahoots with Churchill.

Why should it take a yes vote?Surely in this case-Nuking the oatmeal savages back to the stone age,couldn’t require more than a Dehaviland Beaver! If bailing out mafias,has left London too strapped for cash-rent an Anaotov Colt from Poland. Remember,when the Romans realized they couldn’t hold the line-they bred up Yorkies,to protect civilization from the one threat it couldn’t possibly withstand-Scottish Women.
And we are supposed to worry about-Islamoterrorism!Phish! Even after the Vikings showed up and introduced kilts-showing them that there was a 3rd use for the english sheep they were stealing(previously they simply dipped their bare arses in blue dye and trotted off into the fog),development remained slow.
Trust me -from a Canadian perspective-ye can’t thin them out too much!
