The UK government is to offer the people of Scotland a historic opportunity for their country to receive free school status, it emerged on Saturday night, as a shock new poll gave the campaign for independence a narrow lead for the first time.
In a statement, Alistair Carmichael the Secretary of State for Scotland, Schools, and Other Assorted Unimportant Things – said:
“This move shows the UK government is serious in its discussions over Scottish independence. Under these proposals, Scotland will be free to decide on important matters such as school trips, lunch menus and sports days without any interference at all from Westminster.”
And in a sign of further tensions between the two sides, Mr Carmichael strongly dismissed claims by Scotland’s First Minister, Mr Salmond, that the country should have complete control over its own budget, including tax raising powers, in the event of a ‘YES’ vote.
In a statement, Mr Carmichael said:
“Mr Salmond is a very naughty boy. And if he continues to be this disrespectful he can expect detention. Or even a thousand lines. So he should pull his socks up and do as he’s told. At once.”
The dramatic moves come not long after the ‘YES’ campaign received another blow when the UK government announced full sovereignty of Michael Gove would be granted to Scotland in the event of a vote for independence.

But would “school trips” be allowed south of the ‘border’ or would there be draconian border controls?

It depends whether you’re talking about currency union, sterlingisation, pegging or a floating currency called “pound”. Which do you mean?

there is no such thing as the english £…
there are many independent countries that share currency and prosper…many countries that gained indy from WM union and continued to use/share the £..until they made the independent choice not to…independence is about the freewill choice on how to democratically use a countries assets and resources, to best suit it’s own needs..currency is a token of energy…the difference is; instead of getting pocket money, we can now have our unopened wage packet, therefore access to all of our assets and resources…we no longer need to pay 10% towards infrastructure that we get no benefit from..trident, hs2, illegal wars, private schools and their charity status, etc..we are then free to join or leave any union we choose to…we leave the WM union because this is the 1st time we have had that opportunity to do so…scotland is a country, not a region, that has shared an enforced currency union with england for many years..post indy CU is a choice, there are many other choices scotland can make too.. http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/0041/00419554.pdf

OBD – You’re dead right! I hadn’t seen the 28 day clause before. Not only is this latest announcement after the 28 day cut-off, it’s also after many people have already submitted their postal votes. They have therefore effectively been disenfranchised.
The NO campaign is in clear breach of the Edinburgh Agreement, signed by David Cameron. This means that if the result is NO then it can be challenged in the courts.

For anything to have an effect it must have a delivery system like the news or papers, and news and papers are less of system of delivery these days so it is likely to fall on deaf ears and be swept under the carpet if the corrupt government get the decision they want.
