There are now numerous cases of terminally sick cancer patients being told by the DWP they are unable to receive sickness benefit because they are supposedly ‘fit for work’.
The latest victim of the coalition government’s slashing of help and support for the sick, disabled and dying was Chris Smith, a plumber from Leicester with terminal cancer who died last month:
Help for the sick and disabled in the UK has now effectively disappeared and the welfare state – in England and Wales at least – has already gone.
Here’s the proof that sick people – even cancer patients – are now regarded as malingerers:

This has been going on for ages. My friend, suffering from cancer for the past 6 years, is battling with the DWP the entire time…as long as you can raise your arms behind your head and walk so far apparently you’re fit for work.

Sort of makes you wonder who’s paying the media to keep quiet about it all.
When I think about the Great Britain, where I used to live, and the moronic politicians that now run it, it disgusts me. The treatment of the sick and dying, disabled, poor and elderly, is lower than most 3rd World standards.
Just when did our nation die?
There again, what has happened to the English?
Or has everyone simply given up and just like George Orwell said :-
‘If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—for ever’.
Has that become accepted as normal?

Every DWP atrocity I read about has the same reply every time and I’m getting sick and tired reading their excuses.
They say, you can appeal: Here’s my succinct reply about the suffering of my relative.
1) He had a WCA with a charlatan ATOS “nurse” that was under investigation by the NMC at the time of his “assessment”
2) stripped of money for 3 months – after being found “fit” for work – I had to take on his appeal and weren’t it for the help he received off me, the CAB, our MP & local housing dept, I KNOW HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A FATALITY TOO!
3) After nearly 2 years, the decision was overturned at tribunal
Words can’t express the stress that all this put on my profoundly-disabled relative and even though he got help off me & professionals even he expressed a wish to die at his lowest ebb (when he had to rely on me to feed him as he had no money whatsoever)

yes just met an old flame yesterday – got prostate cancer – cant have radiotherapy as cant afford to stop working and has been hassled by atos !!!! its barbaric !!!!

absolutely appalling–cancer is a terrifying condition–I am 64 and amazed I am still alive after cancer set in at 61 and nearly dead–cancer made me weak as went from around 15 stone to around 7 stone at my worst–a horrible twiggy sight–also have chronic lymphoedema from 49 to 64 limiting my life in upright–EXCELLENT HOME TREATMENT FROM DISTRICT NURSES THROUGHOUT THAT TIME BY THE WAY–cancr and chemotherapy reduced me to crawling around on my hands and knees at times. I FELT THAT BECAUSE I HAD CANCER I WOULD BE MORE HUMANELY TREATED–BUT BIG JOKE. ALL THESE CANCER CASES TOGETHER–LET US BE QUITE FRANK–THE STATE OFFICIIALS MUST DIE–THE TERRIBLE TRUTH–as far back as 1980s a team of doctors and other influential people produced damning report on junk food industry and its harm on health–govt surpressed it in interests of corruption–lots of people became sick on junk food and overall toxic environment–govt then turned on sick and disabled its own corruptions largely caused and we have these cancer tragedies–ENOUGH–GOVT CORRUPTIONS CAUSED HUGE NUMBERS OF SICK–THEY TURN ON SICK AND DISABLED THEN–NOW WE HAVE THESE CANCER TRAGEDIES–GOVT OFFICIALS MUST DIE FOR THESE AND OTHER CRIMES TOO NUMEROUS TO MENTION–ONE REFERENCE AMONGST MANY–1980s BOOK–“THE FOOD SCANDAL” BY CAROLINE WALKER AND GEOFFREY CANNON–READ IT–I HAVE HAD IT FOR MANY MANY YEARS NOW. GOVT OFFICIALS MUST DIE NOW–CRIMES TOO AWFUL–TOO MANY.

Ian Duncan Smith is a vile piece of sociopathic thrash. You would be forgiven for asking the question …. How does he sleep at night ?, knowing he has imposed so much misery, and suffering on those who, lets face it, are already suffering. Mr Smith may you die screaming, because you deserve nothing less.

I hope that the UN are getting all of this as they are investigating the UK for the way it has been/is treating the disabled and long term sick.
I cannot for the life of me understand why the people of this country didn’t stand up to the evil swines not long after they “got into power”. If we would have stood together as citizens of the UK we could have had this lot out of power a long time ago!
We still could, we should all stand up and fight to help our vulnerable, but we won’t, we’ll all go back to watching stupid television programs – God Help Us All.

Its originally thought to be from the symbolic form iHc or iHs (greek or latin, can’t remember which) converted to jHc with many and various meanings…
In the vernacular it’s just H with no real meaning, although “Harold/Harry” is quite often thought to be valid, as a bastardisation of Hallowed, although it depends on when you were born… ‘arry being more modern in the UK and probably due to “you dirty old man” steptoe and son’s (at least from my own standpoint, I’ve always associated, JHC, with “Harry”).
My old man was a Rev. and that is about the only thing I can remember bar a few sunday school style parables.

brilliant stuff–you have great understanding–I became a specialist in State criminality known to criminology and many others–long term survivor of brutal medical bloodsports targeting humans–film/website on me–remember govt corruptions created masses of sick and disabled with junk food industry and other toxins–then they turn on sick–then we have these cancer tragedies–just one part of massive overall crimes and corruptions–and yes tv and such can keep brainwashed populace tranquil–but I became a specialist in this field–criminal States known to criminology and others–States and their police can be fought against.

The old divide and conquer trick. The newspapers (and to a lesser extent TV media) compliantly churn out stories of work-shy layabouts who milk the system, and immigrants getting free houses so that the majority nod along in agreement, casting suspicious eyes at how many TVs their neighbours have, while the government whittles away at the welfare state in the name of combatting fraud.

There might be reasons that are not publicised. Understandings about treatment limitations. You can be found fit for work without knowing why. Authoritarian paranoia about anyone getting one over on them without evidence or reason – as opposed to just being authoritarian – there’s been successive articles in the likes of The Telegraph about people being ” wilfully ill ” , also you’ll get the shill trolls with their ” anecdotal evidence ” . This will work it’s way down from Whitehall and manifest itself in the DWP / UKJCP target culture .
I’m a bit lost as to what sort of moral lesson they are teaching people . Maybe I didn’t read enough Ayn Rand or Charles Murray in further education .

In Australia the new far right conservative govt are trying to very quickly dismantle medicare and govt (tax payer) funded health services in favor of a user pays system. At the same time amping up the demonization of the disabled and unemployed. There is 1 job for every 7 job seekers but that doesn’t stop the nastiness in the media. Laws to keep jobs at a fair wage are being scrapped to fly in workers short term for non union wages. Even govt jobs are being sold out to private tenders. Please share info on what has happened to UK system with AU readers, they have no idea how bad it could be

I’ve been thinking about what fate should be suited to Iain Duncan Smith. Death could be satisfying to all those who have suffered at his hands (and the rest of the cabinet-I’m not resolving them of the blame they share.) but it’s not enough, the evil git needs to learn how to suffer and be stripped of all forms of dignity.

I’m very glad that you said that, because the welfare state has NOT gone in Scotland. After independence Scotland will vote for a more caring society (as it has for decades) whilst England will continue to vote for the Thatcherite ‘end of society’. I truly feel sorry for you unfortunate people living in England, but your fate is in your own hands……

In Liverpool, the New Royal Liverpool Hospital, is going to be replaced a NEW New Royal Liverpool Hospital in about 2 years time! The NEW hospital will have all single rooms,each with its own en suite bathroom and large flat screen TV.This brand new hospital will have a FRACTION of the number of beds of the existing hospital,the one they intend to demolish when the NEW one is complete.
So are the people of Liverpool all suddenly going to get much healthier in 2 years time and not need so many hospital beds,or is the real reason for the much smaller hospital with all single rooms that the NHS will be abolished and made fully private and very few people will be able to AFFORD to go to hospital regardless of need?
