(not satire – it’s the UKIP!)
A council seat on Redditch Borough Council – which UKIP won by a landslide only in May – has fallen in a by-election to Labour:
Compare this with the results from the same ward just over 2 months ago*:
That’s a swing of +11.7% to Labour and -10.5% from UKIP.
Looks like UKIP support is in freefall.
And – contrary to popular belief – it’s Labour not the Tories who are picking up the voters.
.
*The reason for the by-election was the resignation of the newly-elected UKIP councillor Dave Small after he made racist and homophobic remarks on Facebook. Proof that being openly intolerant and prejudiced is not the vote-winner most of the right-wing press seem to think it is?

So nice to see the LibDem support fall of to almost nothing, nothing more than those traitors deserve

If that result were extrapolated to a general election, does that mean the LibDems would have as many seats in Parliament as do the Greens?

I still do not understand quite why the small minded Dave Small resigned as a councillor. So he’d made the mistake of revealing what he was really like and UKIP kicked him out as they’d prefer not to be considered a bunch of mindless, right wing head-bangers – but couldn’t he then join the BNP or just remain on the council as an “independent”?
Why resign?

Luckily for the Liberal Democrats, Special Branch can be relied upon to remove evidence from a local police station to prevent the prosecution of people like Cyril Smith for Buggery and Rape.
Another bit of “luck” for decent politicians is that their number one procurer,Jimmy Savile, died before he could be tried and jailed for his part in a massive long running paedophile ring and saved himself by turning Queen’s Evidence against all those nice proper politicians!
Another really bit of good luck was the way the Rt.Hon.Mr. Grevile Janner MP was diagnosed as suffering from dementia the week before the police FINALLY decided to interview him, after being warned off on every previous occasion. The DPP has decided that he is too old to charge despite his being younger than Rolf Harris who is now entering his second week of his almost 6 year sentence for crimes just as odious as those Janner has long been suspected of commiting.
So lets not start pretending that the other so called political parties are havens of decency and high moral standards, they are not only well stocked with rapists and perverts but people who will protect them and put them forward for KNIGHTHOODS rather than live up to the title they have but fail to comprehend,Right Honourable.
I see nothing right or honourable in lying for decades to protect disgusting perverts and allow them to continue raping, assaulting and buggering the young and defenseless.Given the choice between having an MP who was a RACIST rather than a RAPIST I think I would rather try the former than the latter as it might make a refreshing change!

Is a RACIST better than a RAPIST? I think ‘better’ hardly comes into it though I get your meaning.
Perhaps, just perhaps, it would be nice if our so called ‘leaders’ were actually both ‘right’ and ‘honourable’. I suppose it might also be nice, while I’m at it, if they had actual qualifications for the roles they assume. For example; if you were to choose a chancellor of the exchequer would you choose a dingbat with a history degree or a, economist/statistician? I suppose you might just choose your mate George, he does have rich in-laws after all…

Bit of a leap of faith to make that statement on one result, perhaps you would like the whole election to just be held in one constituency, or like the eussr no votes at all just appoint failed politicians to the only jobs that matter.

What looks to have happened is that many of the UKIP voters who turned out for the European election also voted in the council election but didn’t turn up to vote in the by-election. If you showed the number of votes cast, rather than the percentages, that would be obvious. The Labour vote also fell, admittedly only slightly, so I don’t think the result means that people shifted from UKIP to Labour. It does show the importance of getting the vote out. Perhaps too it indicates that UKIP voters care most about Europe or that they are generally ‘less political’ and many of them aren’t ‘regular voters’ who vote in every election.

The Greens would likely gain and the Lib Dems would lose. Both parties would end up with around ten seats. However, the Green support is spread around, so may not win many seats, but be a minor party in lots of constituencies.

UKIP lost two seats on Thursday. Conservatives gained a seat on Cornwall Council from UKIP after the resignation of UKIP’s Michael Keogh. The Liberal Democrats came from third place to within one vote of wining, pushing UKIP in to third place. Labour overtook the Cornish Nationalist Mebyon Kernow candidate.
Conservative 406 32.6%
Liberal Democrat 405 32.5%
UKIP 271 21.7%
Labour 107 8.6%
Mebyon Kernow 58 4.6%

The Lib Dem vote has certainly withered in Redditch. It would be hilarious if at the general election the Lib Dems are reduced to a fragment of what they were.

Strong evidence that UKIP are not the party ready to sweep all before them that the press seem to think they are. And also positive proof that spouting racist and anti-gay prejudiced nonsense will lose you votes, not gain them.

I’m not optimistic enough to see a single council seat loss as ‘freefall’, but then I note Tom has categorised this article as ‘Hopeless Naivete’. Let’s hope it’s the pebble that starts an avalanche against the Euro-septics.
