(not satire – it’s the Tory Party!)
Tory MP Guy Opperman has deleted this tweet (from politwoops):
It seems even Guy thought this was one claim too many.
Because of course the Tory party didn’t implement the minimum wage – which of course was introduced by a Labour government in 1999 – and which of course was opposed by the Tory Party at every step of its implementation.
Which makes Guy’s statement one of those – oh what is that technical word politicians like to use amongst themselves when they spin the facts so far from the truth even they can’t remember what’s true or false any more?
Oh yes, that’s right, I remember now.
A lie.

Guy Opperman deletes the claim he made that the Tories set up the minimum wage when they didn’t. This is just one lie in a long series the Tories have made, beginning with Thatcher’s claim that ‘the NHS is safe with us’, with right through to everything IDS, Fester McLie and Mike Pennington have ever said about their welfare reforms. And, of course, including the classic lie that the Tories are not planning to privatise the NHS.
The only difference between Opperman’s lie and the usual Tory run of falsehoods is that he did not prefix it with the claim that ‘in real terms’ the amount ‘has risen since Labour was in power’, or said they were ‘cutting red tape and bureaucracy, and concentrating resources where it is most needed’. Both of these are prize porkies which have been repeated by the Tories ad nauseam in each successive administration.

Perhaps he was merely inebriated and meant to write that the Tories have always sought to minimise wages?

‘Spin the facts’…..hmmmm…
‘They’ recognize each other and still they proliferate.
Me thinks Sir a cull is called for!
What shall we call it?
Ah! The Cull of the Spin Doctors…well that should get rid of most of them.
Words ,words, words.
I’ve eaten too many words.

I opposed the minimum wage at the time of its introduction even though I was a shop steward at the time. Its been responcible for driving down wages for most workers and as been responcible for creating even more low pay workers than there was when it came in. Another instance of the Labour party being out of touch with its core support, and the trades union leadership being out of touch with its membership

I don’t think it was a lie, I think it was plain stupidity. The problem isn’t politicians telling lies (we all know they do that) it’s having morons like him running our country purely because their parents had enough money to send them to a public school, even they don’t have more than 3 brain cells to rub together.
