Here are 8 extremely compelling reasons why Baroness Butler-Sloss should stand down as head of the inquiry into allegations of child abuse by politicians and other powerful figures:
1) Child abuse survivors say Butler-Sloss is the wrong person for the job.
2) Prominent campaigners also say Butler-Sloss is the wrong person for the job.
3) Butler-Sloss would have to investigate her own brother who has been accused of covering up the identities of VIP paedophiles.
4) As a member of the House of Lords, Butler-Sloss is too much an entrenched part of the same establishment she would have to be investigating.
5) Butler-Sloss has herself been accused of trying to hide the identities of church leaders accused of child abuse.
6) Butler-Sloss has openly stated she believes leaders and heads of state should have “sovereign immunity” in the courts.
7) At 81, Butler-Sloss is simply too old to carry out a forceful, tenacious and effective investigation into powerful people who have very powerful connections and who will assuredly fight tooth and nail against any suggestions of wrong-doing on their part.
And the most undoubtedly incontestable reason Butler-Sloss cannot possibly be the right person for the job……
8) Michael Gove thinks she is.

If number 5 can be substantiated then she clearly is the wrong person, surely no-one could argue with that one, even Gove.

Totally agree! From the incalculable amount of reading and research I have been doing for some time, regarding countless stories about institutionalised child abuse etc; it shows, without doubt this has been going on for many decades. I have no confidence in any of the ‘official’ inquiries, because it is akin to, “police policing themselves”. We are sure to find that ranks will be closed, barriers will be erected, evidence will be lost, and the only words that come to mind, are, 1. white, and 2. wash. Or in other words, 1. cover, and 2. up.

Michael Mansfield QC is is a much better choice who a lot of us can identify with so that you can be sure he will get to the bottom of what has gone on
he speaks very clearly and is a joy to watch plus he is what i would call a trusted pair of hands like myself

Robert Carnwath, Lord Carnwath of Notting Hill was called to the bar quite early on educated at Eton College and Trinity and is also a good choice

Sir Nicholas Peter Rathbone Wall PC is a former English judge who was President of the Family Division and Head of Family Justice for England and Wales is also another person i would recommend as is well briefed in families
Baroness Butler-Sloss is what IDS is to welfare just a bad choice for this type of operation

She was probably the best candidate on a short-list including the Pied Piper and the Child Catcher! Somewhat naive but wouldn’t it make sense, if the powers that be really want to convict the “alleged” criminals, to choose a panel made up of investigative journalists, non-affiliated political correspondents, people involved in “Sarah’s Law, respected public figures that help their local communities, a “Royal” (I KNOW, but what kudos plus there would be no argument of bias), a live internet feed not necessarily with sound so we could see the panel at work and all headed by an official voted by the public NOT put in place by the Government or officials. I appreciate it will take time and expense but as the allegations go back 30 years or more, surely the extra time and effort involved in order to get a fair, balanced and genuine inquiry would be worth it. And the expense? We’re made to pay for everything else so what’s an extra “penny, per week, per person”?

A public panel with someone honest and with integrity leading them – that is not Sloss – she needs to step down as she is too involved and already has a posse of people not wanting her. She’s 81 – she should not be doing this at her age and should have a complete medical and mental health study – she could have alzheimers or be confused and non compos-mentis.

I’m not sure how relevant Butler-Sloss’ age is to this, as the joke has always been that judges are old and doddery. When Peter Cook delivered his monologues as a judge sending up the Jeremy Thorpe scandal, one of the jokes in it was, ‘Members of the jury, when you retire, as should I…’
The rest of it is exactly right. She is very, very definitely the wrong person for the job, which is why it was given to her.
