(not satire – it’s the UK today!)
All MPs will be receiving this excellent spoof letter next week, highlighting the fact that the main people who are going to benefit from the government’s decision to abolish Local Welfare Assistance, will be loan sharks:
MPs will also be receiving pillow cases with the slogan “How do you sleep at night?”
For more about the campaign to raise awareness of the impact of cutting Local Welfare Assistance – which funds essential furniture, electrical goods, food, rent deposits etc for vulnerable households at risk of homelessness or going through a crisis – see here.

This is an excellent piece of campaigning satire in order to point out how the poor, the vulnerable and the homeless will be exploited by loan sharks. I hope the MPs receiving the letter get the message, though in the case of the government, I doubt it. Their whole policies are directed towards destroying the state sector so that people have to turn to private industry, no matter how expensive, exploitative and inefficient this may be. The only aspect of this that’ll bother them will be that someone has dared to criticised and spoof it.

This evil kakistocracy – surely the worst bunch of crooks ever to infest Parliament – seem, little by little, to be determined to resurrect the old Poor Laws, perhaps because of some foolish belief that reverting to the standards of the unreformed Ebenezer Scrooge will restore prosperity to the country.

Restore prosperity? There were gushing reports all over the news yesterday that the UK plc is the second strongest economy in Europe behind Germany, and 6th globally, so how the fuck does that wash when they are telling us we’re too broke to find money for Social security, NHS and housing benefits?

I think their belief is that they will consolidate prosperity to THEM. At the expense of the country.

They certainly seem to want to help the loan shark industry to grow.

I suppose there’s a risk that some may feel loss of Local Welfare Assistance may conflict with the idea of Localism. However, proper facilities for locally established sharks should avoid this possibility. And as a bonus (?) there will be the opportunity to increase donations to the Local (T) Party Fund account. And as an extension of the idea, how about charging the starving for using Food Banks, perhaps, to increase the need for loans? I’m sure I heard a rumour that IDS is in line for cannonisation.

I wonder if it will make any MP squirm – I know it won’t bother Cameron, Smith and a few others. They think that they were put on this earth to kill off the poor and the vulnerable – they have tried and tried but still we carry on and that’s what pisses them off.
The best thing that could happen is that everyone votes Labour just to make sure they are out of the picture for many more years.
At least with Labour we know we can get more from in the end as they are much more pliable than this unelected lot we have in now.

Also meant to say, if items like these, as well as letters get sent to them week after week, then it will rile them – especially Smith who thinks he is in charge. And the best way to rile IDS is to refer in any items or letters sent to him as a Mr G Smith, or plain old Mr Smith – that will really piss him off 🙂

It’s very good to highlight this campaign, but it’s not “the UK today!”, it’s only England. Details about the Scottish Welfare Fund can be found at http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/People/welfarereform/scottishwelfarefund

Tom – I thought you might add a correction. Somebody who’s in crisis and lives outwith England might read your piece and get the wrong impression. Up to you of course……

Yes I do know about Scotland as I too live there. Perhaps by gaining Independence we can never have to worry about anything like this ever again!

After Scottish Independence I’m sure there will be plenty of things to worry about, but a Conservative government isn’t one of them!
…but sadly for rUK there will probably be a Conservative government for the foreseeable future. I genuinely feel sorry for that, but they will get what the vote for, so the choice is in their own hands.
