(not satire – it’s the UK today!)
Macmillan Cancer Support have commissioned a new report which shows the severe financial problems now being experienced by cancer patients in the UK.
The problems are entirely due to the government’s crackdown on so-called ‘benefit scroungers’ and the resulting ‘reforms’ to sickness and unemployment benefits.
Macmillan found that since the government’s changes to the welfare system:
- 2 in 5 cancer patients now can’t afford to heat their homes adequately
- 2 in 3 cancer patients are now waiting at least 6 months for financial help
- 1 in 5 cancer patients are now waiting at least 9 months for financial help
- 1 in 4 cancer patients have difficulties attending their hospital appointments for financial reasons
- Over half (56%) of cancer patients now experience financial worries
So when you hear government ministers or the right-wing press going on about ‘benefit scroungers‘ – what they really mean is ‘cancer patients‘.
.
If the definition of a civilised society is how well it looks after its weakest members, I think it’s now safe to say the UK is no longer a civilised society.

It’s the same for Heart Disease & Stroke sufferers.. Being affected by vascular disease myself I too experience the treatment & hardship due to government policies tarring everyone as benefit scroungers. BHF & Stroke association and others should get together on this issue and do something about it.. But they don’t seem to..
You can go on ESA for a year then after that be miraculously cured though…
Also DWP / Jobcentre staff would do well getting out of being part of this before its too late and they, in time will most likely suffer the same fate and then realise exactly what its like to be struck down with illness,,,

I’m a cancer patient, I have leukaemia and I am a stem cell transplant patient. Honestly, I put the heating on anyway. I refuse to be ill in the freezing cold. Screw the government, I am not a scrounger, I am a 63 year old pensioner who workd 30 + years and paid my taxes and my NI contributions, I will not let these animals who are currently ruling the country to dictate to me.
