(not satire – it’s Iain Duncan Smith!)
No one should be surprised by the extremities of Duncan Smith’s attacks on the welfare state.
After all, Duncan Smith has a history of links to far-right politics – including racist and fascist organisations.
- In 1995, Duncan Smith was one of a few Tory MPs who met with senior figures of the racist and anti-semitic French National Front in Westminster. Le Pen’s deputy, Bruno Gollnisch MEP, later said Duncan Smith and other Tory MPs they met were “sympathetic” to their views:
“I came to meet members of the Conservative Party sympathetic to our views… I met Duncan Smith and others in their offices and later we got together for less formal talks in a bar somewhere in the Parliament building.“
- The vice-president of Duncan Smith’s leadership campaign team in Wales was Edgar Griffin – the father of BNP leader Nick Griffin. Edgar later said the reason he was not a member of the BNP was because it was “too moderate” for him – unlike the Tory Party. And unlike Duncan Smith too presumably.
- A Tory Party far-right wing fringe organisation called the Swinton Circle also supported Duncan Smith in his successful bid to lead the Tory Party. The Swinton Circle is led by former National Front activist Alan Harvey and has close ties to pro-apartheid far-right South African groups such as the Springbok Club.
- Former deputy head of the British Ku Klux Klan, Bill Binding – who later joined the Tories – was also a fan of Duncan Smith. Binding said of our present Secretary of State for Work and Pensions:
“I think he’s very good.“
If you can tell the nature of a politician by his supporters, Duncan Smith is a very extreme politician indeed.
No surprises then that he was one of the first UK politicians to call for the invasion of Iraq. And believes unpaid work makes you free.

I’ve reblogged articles mentioning these facts before – but you know, they constitute such a blow to Iain Duncan Smith’s credibility that I relish the opportunity of doing so again.

It doesn’t surprise me as most cowards and bully’s have connections to the far right. It’s the way of the fascist….get them on their own though and it’s a different matter just watch them grovel and like all cowards deny any connection and change sides almost immediately..Ian Duncan Smith is a miserable maggot and has to have 4 bodyguards everywhere he goes….that’s how popular he is….Don’t worry Mr Smith we will wait until you turn into a fly…..they supposedly only live for one day!

Again Tom your meticulous research has educated us about the nefarious IDS. I was disgusted & dreadfully disappointed in the BBC QT programme when they had him on TV unable to escape without making a totall arse of himself….and they wasted the perfect opportunity to condemn him in public. Of course they are politically motivated in that the wretched government grant fees for running what’s supposed to be an unbiased public broadcaster. The whole mess is incredible but true…Another reason for me to vote YES…don’t think UK Labour will be much different even if they do manage to scrape a in next year. Terribly sad…

I don’t know why, but the idea of a British KKK just makes me giggle (I know, I know I should be shocked that one [did, still does?] exists) but the idea of some skinhead in DM’s, tight jeans, tight t-shirt, (seriously have you seen how much that look has been appropriated by parts of the gay and BDSM scenes) nicking his mothers bed sheets and cutting holes in them to make the “cape & hood” just has me giggling like a demented hyena that’s been sucking down on helium.
It’s made doubly funny if you also imagine them using a needle and thread, or better still their mums old foot pumped singer while their face has a look somewhere between confusion and concentration with the tip of the tongue poking out the corner of the mouth as they try to thread the needle.

This actually makes you wonder how many other leading members of the Tory party have to resist raising their right arms in salute at the party conferences. It’s all very reminiscent of the 1930s, when Tory grandees joined the Anglo-German Fellowship and The Link, while making approving murmurs about what an excellent job Herr Hitler was doing in Germany. And the French Front National are Fascists. They tried to clean up their image in the ’90s to look more respectable, but Le Pen pere used to sell Nazi memorabilia in the 1970s. I wonder how much he charges for a coal-scuttle helmet and a record of Hitler’s speeches? It also explains why IDS also hates the disabled with such a passion. Nicholas Goodricke-Clarke in his book on contemporary Nazi paganism, notes that many of the Nazi pagan groups and their members not only hate Jews, Blacks, and non-Whites, but also the disabled. By the eugenics standards of the 19th and early 20th centuries, they’re unproductive: life unworthy of life, as the biologists in Germany called them.

I can’t believe I’m typing this but here goes…. In defence of the Insidious Delusional Sociopath, you can no more judge IDS by his supporters and the people he’s met than you can judge this blog’s author by the people who visit/comment on his blog. Politicians meet all sorts of people in and out of parliament and some of those people aren’t nice. IDS is not a time traveller and has no control over the pasts of people who join organisations to which he is already a member. If I were to find a neo nazi paedophile who said he liked this blog, would it invalidate this blog? IDS should be judged/condemned for the many despicable things he himself has said/done (and/or those things for which he is indirectly responsible via sock puppetry and astro turfing).

While I agree you can’t necessarily judge IDS by his supporters and people he has met, you actually can judge him on the kind of support he actively garners. So if he goes looking for support amongst far right groups, then yes you can then judge him as someone sympathetic to those groups.
